CNO offered this guy real quickly after being hired so he must think he's a good player.

Meanwhile, CNO is at work on recruiting.  Cecil's update:  Click here for link

CNO was already recruiting this guy and had offered him a scholly to Buffalo.

It sounds like CNO is really on the ground running. Sounds like he is also a parents person also. He talks to parents and gets some back up advice for the kids he is after. I think if Lewis wants to play winning BB at Alabama he will stay. RTR!

First recruit for Oats at Bama.

Hawkins, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound three-star center from Nevada, committed to Alabama Saturday night.

While Hawkins is ranked just 175th nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings, he’s rated as a four-star player and as the 88th-best prospect in this year’s recruiting class in 247′s individual rankings.

Also.....MD....the wording in this al.com article implies that Bryan Hodgson is being hired as an ass't coach.  Has that been confirmed?  Cecil didn't say anything about it.

Oates has said that Coach Hodgson will join his staff unless he is offered the Buffalo head coach job. He is interviewing for that position. Oates also said he may or may not retain one assistant from the previous staff. I assume that would either be Pelphrey or Pettway.

Thanks for the Cecil Hurt link. I ran elsewhere yesterday that Oaks was traveling to Destin to meet with Watford. If I am a kid on Spring Break in Destin I do not want to mess my vacation up unless it is of high importance to me. I think this is encouraging. Very import to try and get Lewis back. Point guard is an issue without him. No point guard on the team without Lewis with JR and Ingram leaving.

CAJ did not leave the program in bad shape. Hall will have to be replaced. We have some talent on the team like Smith. Javian Davis Fleming sat out last year with a knee injury suffered in practice. He is a 4 start post player that is 6-9 268lbs. Watford would be a great addition here. Getting Lewis to stay is very important. He was good last year and will only get better.

Smiths shoots 44% FT’s, a real liability on the floor. Herb Jones shoots 49%, but Jones plays excellent defense. Other possible key returnees are Reese & Petty. I’m not sold on Tevin Mack, no defense and hot & cold shooting. Also, we need Kira Lewis back in the worst way, without him we are behind the 8 ball. Diante Wood was a great shooting guard in high school so point guard may not be his thing, same for Britton Johnson who was a shooting guard at Mountain Brook H.S.

Seems a little over-the-top to me. He makes $2.45 mil a year but gets a $225 a month cell phone stipend. Same goes for the athletic gear allowance of $5000. Just seems goofy and unneeded.

Somehow I doubt you'd have cared if they'd made his salary $2.46M a year, so what's the big deal?

My guess would be that there are tax implications. He uses the cell phone and wears the clothes as part of his job, so that money might not be taxed.

You are missing the point. He’s making $2.45 mil a year. You’re right, I thought he would sign for $2.5 mil a year and he’s worth it. It just seems cheesy (or cheap) to have a $225 a month phone stipend, which won’t save him anything if even it was taxable. Same for the clothing allowance. Like I said, cheesy for someone who is an instant millionaire and I just don’t get it. Does it really not seem strange or cheesy or maybe even funny to see such silly perks? Just wondering.

I like what I’m reading about him so far. It’s interesting to see him saying what we all could see; there are extremely talented players on the roster whose skills have not been developed.

I don’t want to get my hopes up because we’ve been disappointed so many times, but the early indications are all positive.

I agree.  I don't think he is an everybody gets a ribbon/playing time like AJ, but that is my opinion.

Most corporate executives making ten (plus) times that amount have much more lucrative benefits to go with their salaries and bonuses.

Just saw the article about the first workout by CNO with his new team. Looks like Antoine Pettway will be kept as an assistant. I sure hope so.

Quote
The now-former Buffalo head coach also said he is still considering adding at least one of UA’s assistants from last year’s team. Both Antoine Pettway and Yasir Rosemond joined Oats and Hodgson on a recruiting visit to Destin to see 5-star forward Trendon Watford this weekend. In addition to Hodgson, Oats said he is adding Buffalo strength coach Mike Snowden to his staff.

It's probably standard across the board in the coaching world.  Not sure that there's a point for me to miss.  Pay him $10k more, pay for his phone.  Who cares?  I don't.
