Bad news.  For the past 3 hours there has been no forward movement.  It's just sitting on the mouth of the Mississippi River.  "Lost its steering", according to weather folks.

Yeah, that's the only part they predicted correctly, although they anticipated it to slow down after landfall. I've been watching "Intellicast" off & on all day. It was moving slow enough as it was, now it looks to be sitting there, just spinning in place.

Correct, sir.  The Weather Channel just showed the next 24 hour model.  IT IS PREDICTED TO SIT RIGHT THERE AND POUND NEW ORLEANS UNTIL AT LEAST 6PM WED.

I may have to ask Chaac for help!

Let's hope Mayans don't dislike Cajuns.

This stupid hurricane is stalled.  It's been sitting on the same place for the past 6-8 hours, just blasting.  Levees in Plaquemines Parish (southern LA) are being topped by water, and several thousand people there are in danger.

The new models are in disagreement now.  Some show the hurricane looping back to the east, toward Alabama (below).

Grand Isle, LA mayor: "All hell broke lose at 3AM this morning."  Wind shifted to the south, and now there's 4-5' of water covering the island.

Grand Isle is south of New Orleans, on the coast.  Most of its residents evacuated, but the mayor and about 100 people are still there reporting on Channel 8 (New Orleans).

Plaquemines Parish President reported that his roof blew off.  Now its flooding there (9' of water), people are standing on levees awaiting rescue, and rescuers can't get there.

Sad.  Sad

Dramatic rescues underway in Plaquemines Parish.  Woman on a roof; police can't get to her, and she's going to try to wade through water to the levee.  Yikes.

Woman on cell phone.  She and elderly mother are trapped on roof.  They chopped a hole in the roof through the attic.  Their truck broke down, so they couldn't leave in time.  She is reporting water to their ceiling, so they're on the roof.  "I'm worried about my Mama", she said.  WOW.

Report: "Local citizens in a boat rescued women from roof."  Apparently they braved the storm and darkness to find the women and rescue them.  This is an area that didn't flood during Hurricane Katrina, so it was thought to be safe.

Plaquemines President (Pres. Nungesser): "Water 12-14' deep in streets now."  He's in his 2-story house, but roof is partially off.

This is the area flooded (Braithwaite, LA) to the left.  Between the flooded and unflooded areas is a new levee, which was controversial.  It was just completed.  Graffiti on the flood gate reads: "Gate of Shame", because the residents where the women were trapped knew it would cause flooding.  The area did not flood during Hurricane Katrina.  This is big news in Louisiana, and lives may have been lost as a result.  Sad.

For the life of me, I do not understand why people are still in these areas.  They were told more than a week in advance that trouble could be coming.  Get the heck out, people.....

I know.  People are people, and they all have reasons for staying.  The women mentioned above stayed because their truck died and the elderly woman was on dialysis.  Her dialysis equipment was in the living room.
