Sorry you guys have a nasty afternoon.  It's sunny and hot here in northern Mississippi just before sunset.  We'll get it tomorrow and Thursday.

Remember, boys, "HUNKER DOWN".

There is a New Orleans channel (Channel 8 ) that is streaming live with video, local interviews, and news.  Fun to watch the Cajuns playing in the wind and rain, plus good coverage:

It looks like the current track is going to take it west of you. I'd say you and Chaac are pretty tight.

Thanks, 2.  Chaac is the MAN.  He nailed it.

Lots of silly curves, but Chaac's model was the only one that far west.  LOVE THOSE MAYANS!

as some of you know I have some very good friends that are fishing guides
in Venice , La. . who are also friends with Billy N.
these poor folks can't catch a break with these levee systems

 Pray

hoping for the best for our coonazz friends ...

Quote
Folks, Plaquemines Parish (Mouth of the Mississippi River) update - Boothville, Buras, Venice Area

Billy Nungesser (Plaquemines Parish President)was just on local radio in Baton Rouge indicating the storm surge has water splashing over the top of the Mississippi River Levee north of Boothville causing flooding, and indicated the water level is less than 2ft from a breach. Indicated substantial wind damage along HWY 23 (parallels River for the most part) in South Plaquemines. Power Lines down and roof damage to structures, including HIS HOUSE!!

This is major news because there is the new $BLN levee just completed to the west of the river protecting the western side of these communities, using the Mississippi River and their levee system as protection from the east. If there is a breach it is going to be bad. I do not want to cause panic, but there is a massive amount of water moving up river right now which have the Corps of Engineers and NOAA raising eyebrows. The Southeast to northwest track, slow movement, and large size of this storm is pushing a TON of water upriver. We don't have many that take this track, but this surge is going to be the problem -

And by the way, made a point to say this storm was not a moderate CAT1. Nungesser is not calling the NHC a group of liars, but he is saying there is NO WAY this storm is packing only 80mph right now -

EDIT FOR ADDL INFO - Just spoke to a fishing guide that chose to ride it out. He is saying this is "Katrina Level Surge" in the Venice area. I'm thinking none of the locals thought the surge would be this bad.

I just talked with a buddy near Dauphin Island.  Apparently a sailboat that was anchored north of the island broke loose and its mast hit the big power lines alongside the DI bridge.  The whole island is without power.   Sad

He said otherwise, Grand Bay and the coastal towns are fine, have had only moderate winds, no tornadoes, and everything is fine.  He said the pecan crop was lost (just about all of the semi-mature pecans blew off).  No trees down.

I don't know much about sailing, but why wouldn't he lower the sails?

Bad news.  For the past 3 hours there has been no forward movement.  It's just sitting on the mouth of the Mississippi River.  "Lost its steering", according to weather folks.

Yeah, that's the only part they predicted correctly, although they anticipated it to slow down after landfall. I've been watching "Intellicast" off & on all day. It was moving slow enough as it was, now it looks to be sitting there, just spinning in place.

Correct, sir.  The Weather Channel just showed the next 24 hour model.  IT IS PREDICTED TO SIT RIGHT THERE AND POUND NEW ORLEANS UNTIL AT LEAST 6PM WED.

I may have to ask Chaac for help!
