The NCAA Men's Golf Championship is underway. The teams with early tee times are on the course now. Alabama has a late start time today. Our first player goes off at 2:20 CT. We are the No. 2 seed and we are playing well. Don't be surprised if the Tide brings home another NC trophy in golf.

Quote
The Alabama men's golf team is the No. 2 seed at the 2012 NCAA Championships. The Crimson Tide is making its sixth trip to NCAAs in the last eight years under the guidance of head coach Jay Seawell and its 14th overall. The 2012 NCAA Championship tees off on May 29 and runs through June 3 at the Riviera Country Club, a par-71, 7,292-yard layout in Pacific Palisades, Calif. There will be three rounds of stroke play for the 30-team field with a cut to eight teams after 54 holes. Those eight teams will begin three rounds of match play for the national title (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5).

Alabama boasts four golfers in the top 55 of the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and three among the top 18. Freshman Justin Thomas leads the way at No. 2 while sophomores Bobby Wyatt and Cory Whitsett are ranked 17th and 18th, respectively. Hunter Hamrick is 55th and boasts a 72.39 scoring average and five top-10 finishes this year.

May be the best men's golf team Bama's had. They were good with Cauley and Thompson, but I think this team is better from top to bottom.

We had a good team in Thompson's senior year 2008. We were even better last year with Cauey being the team anchor. But I agree with you, this years team is by far the best we have ever had. We are very strong at the top and do not have a weak link on the team. I know winning NCAA Championships is difficult but I feel we have the best team and should win it this year.

The course must being playing tough. Fifteen teams are on the course and none are under par. Bama is about an hour away from teeing off.

Bama shoots +1 on a day that no team is under par. A few teams are left on the course but as of right now we have a 3 shot lead after day one. It is a long tournament. We need to play well again tomorrow. This is a very good way to start the NCAA Championship.

A plus or minus score makes no difference when you can take the opening lead with it. There was a challenging wind yesterday and the Tide got the best of that situation, hopefully they can increase their lead today. This tournament is very challenging because of the length of it, there are 2 more days of stroke play followed by 3 days of match play.

Good comment Jamos. The only think I can add is only the top 8 teams advance to match play. At that point teams will be eliminated each day until only two remain for the final round.

Our team goes off early today. Our first golfer tees off at 9:00 CT.

Alabama just completed play for the day. They shot a +3 which gives them a total of +4. No one is under par again today but the afternoon rounds are just starting. The leaderboard shows us tied with Florida but unless they do something no other team has done in two days we will have the lead again today. The nearest team that has completed their round is UCLA who is 4 shots behind us.

I like their chances right now, but the game of golf can humble the best in the blink of an eye. This course seems to be very challenging. Roll Tide!!

Looks like they tee off at 1:10 pm today, with a 4 stroke lead over UCLA and an 8 stroke lead over FSU. They would have to really blow it to not finish as one of the top 8 to go to match play. RTR!

Our first man tees off at 1:10 PT or 3:10 CT. We will not finish until very late. We have a 12 shot lead on the team in the 8th spot. We should make the top 8 without much trouble. We need to finish strong today and take the No. 1 seed going into match play.

I have been following this tournament closely. This is one tough course for the college kids.

On an individual note Justin Thomas is in 4th at -2 and Cory Whitsett is T-5th at -1. The leader is -5.

Bama takes 1st in stroke play, beating UCLA  by 2 strokes. Kent St. and FSU tied for 8th. Not sure how the tiebreaker goes. San Diego St., Texas and Oregon still on the course, but none of them can catch Bama. Great job guys & go get them in match play!!!  Applause E-Cred

Playoff for the 8th Team to advance to Match PLay will start at 8AM Pacific time.

I wonder what playoff format is.
