I was about to say HL that my hopes for Cleveland is not going very well. The Rays will be tough in the playoffs, but I think Boston might the team to beat too. This should be a fun drive right up to and through the World Series. RTR!

Very interesting info on the Braves. It looks like they are betting the house on pitching.

I don't know the norm for a 5-game series, but 11 pitchers is the absolute minimum a team would carry on their 25-man roster during the regular season.  Most teams keep 12.

I think is was the Oakland A's in the early 1970's when they carried 9 pitchers into the World Series. Of course, back then you had 4 starters and they had Rollie Fingers, the greatest relief pitcher of his era. They won the Series.

Doesn't look like the Dodgers have announced their roster yet.  Trying to feel Andre Ethier's bum ankle out as long as possible.

Man I remember watching him pitch it looked like he was coming from 2nd base when he threw a pitch. Long arm and fingers. If I am not mistaken Mark McGuire played on those teams too. RTR!

You're getting your Oakland A's teams confused. Rollie Fingers pitched for those great A's teams that won 3 consecutive World Series from 1972, 1973, & 1974. Those teams had everything, great starting pitching, great relief pitching, great fielding, speed, and timely hitting. McGuire started for the A's in 1986 or 1987. He did play on a World Series winner with them, though around maybe 1989.

Yeah, Rollie retired as a Brewer in 1985, a year before McGwire started. Hands down greatest sports mustache of all time.

Rays-Sox is going to be a great series. If there is one team in the AL that I think can match Boston it is Tampa.

Yeah, minimum 11 pitchers at all times in the NL, and best to go with 12 in the playoffs.  You can always send a pitcher up to bat, even in a clutch situation, but if a starting pitchers gets knocked out early in the first game and you have to go deep into the bullpen or a game goes long into extra innings and you run out of pitchers you're done.

Also, knowing that Uggla will not come to the plate in a clutch situation brings a smile to my face.  No ill will towards the guy, I'm sure he's doing his best, but he's stunk since he arrived in Atlanta.

Well, today is the day.  Unfortunately I suffered through a dream last night that I hope doesn't manifest itself on the field tonight.  The Dodgers blew a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth with two infield errors.  With Hanley Ramirez at short, that's always a possibility.

I'd be okay with that.  Tongue

Me too. I just hope the Braves have the mindset to at least beat the Dodgers, and hopefully go deep into the playoffs. The Dodgers are a very good team and it will certainly be a big challenge. We could stand for our bars to wake up.

I should know better by now, but I'm more excited about the Braves this October than I've been in a long time.  Hopefully they got the slump out of their system in the last couple of weeks and are ready to make a run.

Like the Braves the Red Sox have 11 pitchers on the playoff roster roster for the first round.

Red Sox starting rotation against the Rays:

Lester    Game 1 Home
Lackey   Game 2 Home
Buchholz Game 3 Road
Peavy     Game 4 road (if necessary)

That is a strong staff with bats in the line up to give them run support. The BoSox will be hard to beat..

Dodgers are also carrying 11 pitchers.

Wow, Jake Peavy is a pretty strong game 4 starter for the BoSox.
