Freshman University of Alabama running back [db]Brent Calloway[/db] was charged with marijuana possession early Friday morning after police saw him driving near Bryant-Denny Stadium without headlights.

Officers noticed a strong marijuana smell when they stopped Calloway, 18, in the 900 block of Bryant Drive at 12:45 p.m., said Tuscaloosa Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Blankley. The officers found a small bag containing marijuana in Calloway's pocket.
He was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $1,000 bond.

What a shame.  Did he not hear about Jimmy Johns and the LSU three?

How should CNS handle this?  IMO he probably needs to come down on him really hard and get his attention so maybe it will shake him up a little and make him realize how much he stands to lose.

He's not playing anyhow so game suspension is out.  Running, community service and drug testing?  Second positive, hit the road?

I imagine he's not going to have a very pleasant week or two at practice.  One things we've all heard about Saban before is that once you get in his dog house it's not easy to get out.

You certainly can't kick the kid off the team as some have said, this should and I am sure will be used as a "teaching" experience.

I'd be surprised if there is not a list of offenses (internal only) and the penalties for violators. CNS isn't going to lose any time listening to excuses or trying to psychoanalize him.

Right, if you kick him off the team he's a goner for sure with no hope of turning it around.

Stick him with a fork.  He'll never play (IMHO).

I guess I'm just dumb or something but I just do NOT understand why an athlete would risk ruining his college career because of pot and/or drugs.  Just makes no sense to me.  I'd work his butt so hard that he'd be begging for mercy.

Why do they do it? Because they are 18-22 years old and have little life experience.

I went to college.   Embarrassed  You?

Still, I agree.  Kick his butt hard or kick him off the team.

I went later - not at 18. However, pot/drugs have never been a part of my life. And I wasn't a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team.

Guess I'm just one of the weird ones. but that's okay, I am fine with that.
