Malzahn’s seven-year contract, which he agreed to and signed in December 2017 after leading Auburn to an SEC West title, included 75 percent of the deal’s value fully guaranteed. His buyout, as of this month, is $21,450,000, with 50 percent of that owed within 30 days of his termination and the remainder paid in four equal annual installments.

The loss in Tuscaloosa also dropped Auburn’s record under Malzahn against its three biggest rivals — Alabama, Georgia and LSU — to 8-17, including 0-12 on the road. A week later, a 31-20 loss to Texas A&M ensured the program’s seventh straight season with at least four losses. Auburn led Texas A&M heading into the fourth quarter, but the offense faltered late, and the defense suffered a total letdown against the Aggies.

Oh boy... To me:
1. Not good news.  Gus is a below avg coach and I was happy for him to stay at the Barn for as long as possible.

2. Can't believe Barn is paying a buyout of this size.  Gus gets 50% of it in mid Jan so he is going to have a big tax problem in 2021.  The big winner here may be the US Treasury.

3.  Hope Sark doesn't see Barn as an attractive job.  That would be awful.

4.  Hope Gus takes the AU Golden Horseshoe with him!

Sarkisian is a West Coast kind of guy so I don’t see him going to Barn. I see them going for Billy Napier, Brent Venables, or the OC of Clemson. Not sure who else is out there.

For my 2-cents, I don't see AU as a prime job anymore.  Seems like whatever lustre used to be there has worn off.  Recruiting will be tough with CNS in state, Kirby to the east and Mullen to the south of you.
