This could create a real mess but it could also cut both ways.

I have mixed feelings about it.  With a coaching change,  scheme change, or other factor that impacts a player's fit into a system, I can see how an immediate transfer and playing time would be reasonable.  However, I don't want to encourage players who didn't make the starting lineup as freshmen or sophomores to be able to just jump ship so easily.

Probably a Big10 proposal because they're hoping to soak up SEC players they couldn't sign out of H.S.

I think this is crazy for why spend all the money recruiting and let the players just go where they want to and then the next cause they didn't get to start off let them go again. You have some players have 4 college programs before they graduate. RTR!

Now the ACC is supporting this idea.

Best idea I've heard is ...

1.  allowing player to transfer and play immediately (once) to a school ranked lower than his (in previous year final rankings),

2.  sit out a year if he transfers to a higher-ranking school.

3.  After one transfer, he must sit out a year for second one.

MAY NOT HELP BAMA, BUT MOST FAIR.  IT WOULD SLOW THE SHOPPING BY QBs.

I don't know what rankings have to do with it.   Huh?

One problem with transfers is top schools stockpiling talent developed elsewhere.  This would help stop that.

I don't see that as a "problem."   Smiley

And from what I've seen, most transfers are seeking more playing time, not to be "stockpiled."  So I'd expect the numbers to reflect that, with more players transferring to lower ranked schools, rather than higher ranked.

Plus, where do you draw the line, what is the distinction if they transfer from #64 to # 61, instead of the other way around?

The lawyer in me says this is unworkable.  Wink

I guess it would be too much to expect for the NCAA to emphasize commitment rather than entitlement.
