Never too early to start speculation. Here are some coaches who might be considered to replace Coach Johnson. I am pretty sure he is toast if he is looking for another job. Plus, our team seems to be slipping away from him.

Nate Oats 44-Buffalo

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nate_Oats

Eric Musselman 54-Nevada

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Musselman

Chris Beard 46-Texas Tech. He's a Texas grad & might not want to leave

And this:

I really don't see Byrne firing him, but if he decides to move on voluntarily, I'm not going to be sad about it unless we finish this season without losing more than 1 game, and win at least two in the NCAA tourney.

With the way the team has played the last 2 games I don't see them changing any now. The first of the year I thought we might have a chance at the Big Dance but now I just don't see it. RTR!

I would also go after the coach at Gonzaga, Mark Few.

Why not? Would appreciate your observations. Also, do you think he should be retained?

I have a small opinion. I don't think CNS likes seeing any of our sports teams losing. So if CAJ can not take the heat then firing him should not be that hard. RTR!

Not happening, he's been chased by bigger programs but turned them down. A great thought, though.

Quote
Over the weekend, Gonzaga defeated Xavier to reach the National Seminfinals of the NCAA tournament for the first time. Few has coached the team for the past 18 seasons, reaching the NCAA tournament each year. In sixteen of those seasons, they have won at least 25 games and surpassed 30 wins three times. With trips to the Sweet 16 in his first two seasons, he could have easily moved on to higher profile and more lucrative spots almost any year since.

He was fired from his last venture wasn't he? I have to admire the guy at Gonzaga he is a faithful coach. I wish we could find that. RTR!

The coach we have now was fired from his last job as well.  I'm not sure there are many guys in the profession that haven't been fired.  Especially ones with ambition trying to work their way up the ranks.

I don't know who the next coach will be but I dread starting over yet again.  It does us no good to change coaches unless we KNOW the next guy will be better.  Otherwise we may very well find ourselves in the exact same spot 4 years down the road.  We need a proven winner, or if one is not available just stick with CAJ.  He may turn it around next year, or we may be in a better position to get a proven winner next year as a replacement.  I'm tired of taking chances on new guys and hoping for the best.

My list would contain only coaches that have taken a team to the final four, with priority given to those that have won the whole thing.  Probably a short list, and probably not very good odds at getting anyone on that list.

I guess you make sense here because they do all get fired at sometime. RTR!

Wow, I forgot all about him. He would be an excellent choice. Very solid coach at Iowa State before he tried the NBA. He won't be available long, though. He's from Iowa so he may not want to go south.

Kole Kubleck mentioned Antoine Pettway, current Tide asst. coach and #2 recruiter in college BB on the radio? What do you all think?
