Aramaic was Jesus’ native tongue. It’s almost certain he and the disciples knew Koine Greek from childhood, possible that he and they did much of their public teaching in Greek.

All English translations, from the KJV to moderns, are translated from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. The differences between the KJV and modern translations result from modern translators having vastly more and older ancient manuscripts to work with, and changes in the English language.

There’s nothing wrong with preferring the KJV nor preferring a reliable modern translation. I preach from the ESV, finding it to be the best combination of accuracy and readability.

bamaphil, do you find the ESV to be much easier or why? The reason I stay the KJV is because our English words today do not always mean the same thing that was inspired back when the geneva bible was written which is where the KJV comes from except the footnotes were left out. This is my opinion of learning. RTR!

I use the ESV in part because the English language has changed and people today don’t use English the way they did in 1611, and in part because the discovery of thousands and thousands more ancient manuscripts, some dating as early as the second century AD, give us a better understanding of the original writings.

I believe wholeheartedly that the original γραφή were the inspired, inerrant word of God. I do not believe any English translation is more or less inspired than any other. Some are more accurate than others, but I find nothing in the Scriptures that supports the idea that an English translation would be inspired.

I thank you much for that description. I sure wish we could set down sometime and talk one on one. I am presently trying to finish up my discipleship studies through the SWBTS out of FT. Worth with DR. Bill Vinson as my professor. I will now have 12 semesters and still don't know nothing. RTR!
