Wow. Talk about a punch in the gut. I'm glad the Fambly is so pure and moral.

The defendants include coaches at top U.S. college basketball programs, one agent, one financial adviser and a former referee. The coaches are Lamont Evans, an assistant at Oklahoma State University, Emanuel Richardson, an assistant for the Arizona Wildcats, and Chuck Person, associate head coach at Auburn University.

You just knew that a sleazy program like Louisville was involved. What else will be discovered about the recruiting "prowess" of Louisville?

Does this mean Chuck Person has his jersey removed from their arena? Plus, is Bruce Pearl now in deep do-do?

I think there will be aftershocks at the Barn from this.  With all that has gone on over there in the past few years, how can the AD still be there?  The new AU Pres has to be asking that question.

This story is going to get a lot of press coverage.  It was on CNBC this morning.  And Barn is going to get a lot of negative publicity from it.  Will be interesting to see what they do & say later today. They have to say something.

More detailed info coming out. Read link, fascinating stuff. Folks will be selling out all kinds of folks (players, coaches, boosters, etc) to keep themselves out of the penitentiary. This is gigantic.

Quote
The worst-kept secret in college basketball is how coaches, sneaker executives, sports agents, travel-team coaches and financial advisers, often through under-the-table payments, steer top high school talent first to NCAA programs and later to apparel brands and professional representation once they enter the NBA.

Quote
One case among many in the three complaints, which total nearly 200 pages, states adidas’ Gatto, financial planner Munish Sood and agent Christian Dawkins “conspired to illicitly funnel approximately $100,000 from company-1 to the family of Player-10, an All-American high school basketball player; to assist one or more coaches at University-6, a school sponsored by Company-1, and to further ensure that Player-6 ultimately retained the services of Dawkins and Sood and signed with Company-1 upon entering the NBA.

I've read that University 6 is Louisville. I wonder how Louisville spins this to save Pitino, again. He knew nothing about using ho's to recruit players, in the dorms no less, now he knows nothing about bribery right under his nose?

I can see it now. Louisville lawyers, the President, AD, Petino, and their big time boosters all getting together to "explain" this to the public. I got it, blame global warming!

This is not an NCAA (toothless) investigation.  It's federal, and federal crimes were committed.  The poster child of this investigation is CHUCK PERSON.

THESE ARE FEDERAL CHARGES, AND EXPECT PRISON TIME.

Person was on tape lying to recruits and making promises, plus exchanging money on video.  He's cooked.  Auburn is cooked.  This is the biggest federal investigation into NCAA money EVER, and the Aubs are at the center.  Louisville is a bigger name, but Auburn will get just as burned by it, because Person was so guilty.

Barn suspends Person without pay.

Translation from AU Pres.... "I am shocked, shocked....."

As Chechem said, these are federal charges and will be handled in federal courts.  I wonder how NCAA will react to this and if they will somehow come after the schools for "lack of control"  or some such.

Some of you are missing a huge point with these indictments. Since these are criminal charges, they involve individuals. However, if coaches plead or are found guilty, then the NCAA can use that to hammer the colleges. Plus, I expect this to lead to boosters, alumni, and head coaches. Louisville is already on probation for running their on-campus ho house for recruits. Plus, will this lead to other major programs, like UNC, UCLA, Duke, Syracuse (bet they're involved), and others? Guarantee you, the guy from Adidas will throw everyone under the bus to save himself.

An article about Auburn AD Jacobs.

Quote
Auburn basketball likely is headed for an NCAA investigation of massive proportion that could prove far more difficult to weather than that 13-month colonoscopy into the football program that resulted in no major charges.

How many scandals can happen on one man's watch before that man is relieved of his duties? For Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs, this should be one scandal too many.

This is sad, shocking and pitiful. Coaches that think themselves gods get exposed. The darkness is always hid but the light will shine on darkness sooner or later. Well done U.S. Attorney's office.  Cry this is for those kids. RTR!

A crescendo is building about Louisville. The program is totally out-of-control.

Quote
The NCAA death penalty, the much-discussed but 30-years-dormant nuclear option of college sports, is about to make a comeback.

Louisville basketball, one of the most successful in history on the court and for decades the most lucrative hoops program in America, prepare for your demise.

The program should be shut down, if the bombshell allegations announcement of allegations Tuesday prove to be true. If that doesn’t happen, the NCAA is useless.

Quote
Furthermore, the feds allege that in a July 27 meeting in a Las Vegas hotel, a Louisville assistant was part of a discussion to pay a player from the class of 2019 to commit to the Cardinals. Part of the discussion was to note that the involved school “was already on probation with the NCAA” and that “they would have to be particularly careful with how they passed money” to the player.

Posted on another thread. Pitino and the AD of Louisville are fired. Many more heads will be rolling, soon. Anyone know where Jay Jacobs is hiding right now?
