Watched them last night. It's rare we get them on TV down here. I wasn't too impressed with any of them. Errbody swung at errthing.

I'm very impressed, so far, with the play of La Stella at 2B, replacing Uggly. He's hitting .292 and is a left-handed hitter, always a good thing to have. He's no power hitter, but most 2B players aren't. His fielding percentage is .990, an excellent number. Uggly was at .944, a horrible number. Besdies his fielding, is very low strikeout rate is a huge plus. Uggly was striking out slightly more than once every game. La Stella is striking out around once every two games. Hope I haven't jinxed him.

I was talking about as a team the night before last. They looked bad at the plate. Apparently, last night, they righted the ship as they beat the Phillies 8-2,

Its about time. I don't like that the team has to eat about $18 million, but it is worth it to get him off the roster. Easily one of the most disappointing signings the Braves have made in recent memory.
This, and I agree with Jamos. I like his replacement!

I agree about your assessment of the team, I was only talking about La Stella replacing Uggly.

Uggly has been picked up by, an apparently, very desperate team.

Not shocking given the Giants’ clear need at second base and the fact that, from the moment Uggla was no longer a Brave, reports started popping up about the Giants’ interest in him.

So maybe he can play better for the Giants than he did for the Braves. This was a good 2nd Baseman but it just doesn't work sometimes but he ought to be an honest person and give back money for his poor play. RTR!

I really don't see him miraculously getting better. He might be hot the first 3 weeks, but he will return to his poor fielding, striking out, .200 batting average self before it's over with.

You see them more than I do, then. I just wish all the Braves games were against the Nats. They are only a .500 team if they don't play them.

Does Uggla signing with the Giants negate the Braves' requirement to pay him $18 million?

I don't think so since he was released by the Braves. Whatever the Giants are paying him would be in addition to what the Braves have to pay him.

it was a bad investment by the Braves, one of many over the years. Maybe they should start taking the money needed to pay off the big payoffs from the salary of the person making the outrageous deals. Wink

I know they thought it was a good investment at the time, if for no other reason than to get him off of an opponent's team. When he was with the Marlins, he killed the Braves. Then, he killed the Braves by being on the same team.

Why do I have this feeling that the next time we play the Giants he is going to hit three homeruns.  Banging your head against the wall.

The Braves were trying to improve their hitting line-up but only made it worse. BJ Upton & Uggly hit around .200 and strike how WAY too much. This effectively killed scoring oppurtunities and provided zero clutch hitting.
