The only reason they kept him this long was because of his huge contract. No one will pick him up unless he works for literally nothing. This has been a HUGE disaster. Next will be one of the Upton's.

Quote
Uggla played 499 games in a Braves uniform, hitting .209/.317/.391 with 79 home runs, 225 RBI and 535 strikeouts after signing a $62 million deal.

I sure like Uggla's replacement, he has been a tough out for the Braves so far.

Well at one time Dan was a great player but so was Pete Rose. I think Dan just got burned out from carrying that big of a check to the bank. Usually when a player signs that great big contract they usually fall down big time. Only ones I can think of that did better was Micheal Jordan, and LeBron James. Some of my older friends help me out here if I missed someone. RTR!

Its about time. I don't like that the team has to eat about $18 million, but it is worth it to get him off the roster. Easily one of the most disappointing signings the Braves have made in recent memory.

This was a Ted Turner disaster. He was wanting to play GM and know-it-all owner (think of Jerry Jones in Dallas) and called up Cleveland wanting to know if they would trade Barker (a sore-armed pitcher). Their GM immediately rattled off they would take Brett Butler, Brook Jacoby (huge prospect), and someone else.
Turner said yes. He was totally taken to the cleaners by the Indians. Butler was our lead-off hitter, a position we would not be able to fill for 10 years. Jacoby (3B) played in the All Star game and was solid for a few years. Barker went 10-20 pitching for the Braves plus had a large contract. Unmitiggated disaster by a rich guy who thought money made him smart. To his credit, Turner never made another trade and left baseball to the experienced people. Butler was a very good lead-off man and stole over 500 bases AFTER leaving Atlanta.

The Braves are finally addressing their poor hitting and looking to dup BJ Upton after releasing Uggla.

Quote
After he failed to crack the Mendoza line in 446 plate appearances last season, the Braves had to figure some positive regression would be in store for the guy who'd posted an above-average OPS+ in five of the previous six seasons.

Only a true baseball fan will understand the "Mendoza line."

I don't know what he Braves have invested in the Upton brothers but I'm guessing it's way too much. These two are way overrated. Wink

Justin has been decent, but not enough to justify that contract. B.J. has been a total bust. I really thought when the Braves got them that they would start running away with the division again, but funny enough, it has been the guys that have come up through the system that have made the bigger impact.

I'm very impressed, so far, with the play of La Stella at 2B, replacing Uggly. He's hitting .292 and is a left-handed hitter, always a good thing to have. He's no power hitter, but most 2B players aren't. His fielding percentage is .990, an excellent number. Uggly was at .944, a horrible number. Besdies his fielding, his very low strikeout rate is a huge plus. Uggly was striking out slightly more than once every game. La Stella is striking out around once every two games. Hope I haven't jinxed him.
