When you speak of Lacey and Obasohan on the same sentence, you make reasonable comparisons impossible. Obasohan was another one of CAG's projects. This one kinda/sorta worked out but would have been better had he come on around the 2nd Tennessee game. I am looking forward to seeing how he improves over the summer. He does seem to excite the crowd/team by hitting something during a lull.

Lacey has been consistent at making making 1 or 2 goals early on, then missing his next 6.  He does other things to help the team, but so does everyone (almost everyone) else. If CAG had someone on the bench that was better offensively than Lacey, he'd be sitting.  Back in December he won a couple with buzzer beaters. The announcers still bring that up as if it happens all the time. The only time I want him handling the ball with intent to shoot (he has a bunch of assists),--is when he is WIDE open.

I asked the other day if you guys were watching Kansas, OSU, Duke, Miami, or maybe Indiana?  That is where you want the Tide to be each year, a possible final four team, rather than a bubble team to the Dance. You will see how far we have to go, and arguing over whether Gueye, or  Engstrom, or even Obasohan are in the picture come fall is not in my big picture, for getting where we need to be. You cannot say you want the Tide to compete with the big boys, then say you want to do it with those players. HTH

Lacey played point guard, averaged 11.3 pts per game (11.4 in conference games only), 4 rebounds 3 assists and 2 steals. He played 31 minutes per game.  Looks like a solid performer to me.

Obasohan is a freshman guard. He showed potential late in the year when he earned playing time. I expect him to be a good player for us next year in a role coming off the bench.

Of course we want to be a top 10 team like Duke and Kansas. Hopefully one day we will get there on a consistant basis. I would love to back to being a top 25 team with legitimate Sweet 16 talent like we had with Wimp and CM Newton.

My concern is mainly with the coaching. Lacey was 5 star 2-time player of the year in Alabama, Pollard was a 5 star recruit, and Cooper, Randolph, & Jacobs were all 4 star recruits (Rivals). None of these guys have shown that level of play. Were they all overrated or is their talent not being developed? It's very frustrating to seemly recruit well but nothing seems to change. I would be interested in your comments on this.

I wish I could remember the specifics but too much time has passed, between now and the CCMN era. But the game I want to recall was at Coleman-- I believe we were playing Tennessee but for the older guys here, it was the game T.R. Dunn decked a UT guy.

Bama was down maybe 10 or 12 points and went on an amazing flurry of scoring-- maybe a 12-0 run to tie or take the lead. The Vols couldn't get the ball past the halfcourt line. I have never seen or heard Coleman as loud, so much electricity, as that Saturday afternoon. While basketball may never offer the same intensity as football, the disparity is not as wide as you would think, if our basketball program delivers a product where one can see the possibilities.
