Howdy folks.  I had jury duty yesterday but was excused for the day with instructions to call back each day after 5 p.m. to see if they want/need me the next day.  So I am in the office today. There were only two criminal cases they were going to try this week so I'm doubtful I will get called back in...

Congrats on not being on jury duty. Mrs Dottie had to go to Huntsville one time for Federal Court and they did not hve court so she made $11.00. RTR!

I actually enjoy being a part of the process.  Was a bit disappointed that they excused me. And yes, they don't pay nearly enough for doing something that you have no choice in...

Chech needs bail money.  My guess is the woman found dead probably has an affinity towards seagulls and frequents Pensacola Beach too...  Lips Sealed

Yes, Ricky, the wolves are faster than the elk.  And the bison are slower than elk.  But elk taste better (and put up less fight).

This photo was taken today (5-11-23) along the Lamar River (YNP).

Hey Chechem I was watching a program with my wife and I saw Buffaloe that had tags in their ears. Do you ever see that type of animal with tags?  Cheesy Cheesy RTR!
Preacher, those "buffaloe" with tags in their ears are actually extremely rare Bison, not buffaloe. They are not only extremely rare but quite elusive as well.  Almost as rare and elusive as the Snipe we used to take our friends out hunting... Wink

I did not know this at all. thanks very much. RTR!
Hey Preacher, I think your "sarcasm" meter is broke...

Answer: I plan to fish this trip, and I brought my boat.  But fishing isn't very good until June.  I'll meet my buddy at Hebgen lake then (date depends on weather).

Saw this wolf yesterday about 5 miles from the others of the Junction Butte Pack.  It's an older wolf with a collar.  At first I thought it might be 1048M, an old male that hasn't been seen since last fall (believed to have joined another pack in a remote part of YNP).  But after talking with Rick McIntyre (wolf guru), I now think it's a Junction Butte wolf.  But which one??  I showed him a series of pics, plus a (sharper) video, and he was baffled.

Happy Hump Day, all!

I'd like to get called in for jury duty once.  Never had the "pleasure."

Chech, I think your wolf has retired.  No longer has an appetite for chasing tail, and the youngsters get on his nerves.  He hung up the ol' "Gone Fishin'" sign and went his way.

How often do wolves change packs?  Seems like it would be extremely life-threatening for the lone wolf to attempt to do so.

Fairly often it appears. Female wolves won’t breed with their fathers, so if he’s the alpha they eventually leave to find a mate (usually by joining another pack). Young males generally can’t mate, because the alpha male prevents it, so they wander looking for opportunity. One example was well documented of “Romeo” visiting a pack and all the eligible young females rushing to welcome him, until the alpha male chased him away. This repeated numerous visits until he mated with several of them ( called a sneaker male in ecology). The females stayed at home to raise their pups, and he occasionally visited, usually staying a safe distance away.

Interesting stuff about the wolves. I think I was a sneaker male in my younger days.

I'm back in Taylors, SC until Sunday, then, off to Santee, SC for my annual golf trip. Probably, won't be physically able to play every day, but still looking forward to going.

Don't look now, but football season is getting closer.
