Good morning gentlemen.

On tap for the day, whatever I feel like doing, nothing more, nothing less.   Grin

I posted on the other thread that I have a gun show today (and this weekend), so I'll pack the truck.  But first I'm off to work this morning, then I'll go from there.

You guys sore from the yard work yesterday?

No, but I slept well.

So what are you selling?  How far is your show from birmingham?  Do you do for a hobby or do you make money?

A guy could drive himself crazy trying to read all the reports and sort through the metal specs-- but which blade do you feel holds an edge longest? I carry a Buck.

Buck blades (not the new ones from China) have hard steel, and indeed hold an edge well.  But, because of that, they are more difficult to sharpen than the carbon-steel blades.  Some of the old German-made (usually stag) blades, such as Edgemark or Hubertus, or the common Western stacked-leather knives, have soft carbon steel.  They're easy to sharpen to shave-sharp status, but don't hold the edge (as you asked) as long.  Most newer knives have chrome-vanadium alloys, so they're hard steel too.

That what you meant?

Yeah. My Buck is maybe 10yrs. old. I had a friend with a kit (the rods) for sharpening, and I would sharpen it whenever I visited his house. For the last couple of years I've used the sharpener on the woman's can opener. Seems to do about as well.

Buck has nickel steel (nickel as an alloy).  Some people think it's stainless.  Not.  Stainless has chromium as an alloy (at least 10%).

Okay, boys and Terrie, I'm off to work.  I'll be out of pocket most of the next days.  But...

...there will always be an eye on you.  Hopefully as pretty as this.

Good morning from chilly, overcast Pensacola. (It's gotta get better from here.)

And windy?  Is it also windy?

Glad you arrived safely.  I'd rather be there than here.  Bloody Mary?

Right after my doctor's appointment this morning. That should knock the chill off. Good luck with your gun show BTW.
