Good morning.  Coffee

Looks like God is saving the rain until this afternoon.  Since he couldn't send rain, this morning he gave us heavy fog.

We watched the Duke-Carolina game last night.  The nation's #1 player, Duke's Zion Williamson, tore up his knee when his shoe blew out just 33 seconds into the game.  UNC rolled after that, and they upset #1 Duke at Duke.  Wow.  Some shoe company will have hell to pay.

Wow! He's from up here in Spartanburg. Hate to hear that. He is a real talent.

Still raining with lots of lightning here. We are under a flood watch. I'm watching it flood now, lol!

Heading to Myrtle Beach in a little while for a couple of afternoon meetings. I just hope I'm not driving in this weather for any length of time.

Safe travels, 2.
The rain returns this afternoon here, and we're getting another 2" by Saturday.
That means your weekend will be a washout too.

They were the Nike "Paul George" shoes.  I wonder how many calls he and Duke will get from attorneys if the injury is worse than initially thought, and it costs him draft money.  Also, will he answer Nike's calls for the endorsement deal in about a month and a half?

Good morning folks.  Safe travels 2.  If you see my middle daughter tell her, "Daddy says hi."  I doubt you will though because she is supposed to be at work in Bluffton, SC.  The Tennessee river is nearing flood stage and they are actually putting out warnings in the Florence area.   I just hope they can lower the reservoirs along the river before we get significantly more rain... Our school system (Jackson County) is closed today due to roads across the county being flooded. I lost part of my driveway again Tuesday night and expect more of it to be washing downstream by the weekend...

The water on the "high side" of Wheeler Dam was as high as I'd ever remember seeing in yesterday afternoon when I passed over.  It was too dark to tell on my morning commute today.  Both counties bordering the river in the Shoals released schools around lunch yesterday, and I know that Lauderdale was delayed today.  There were about 20 road closings in Lauderdale Co yesterday.

There is a guy in Huntsville that is a research scientist of some nature.  He has a PH.D but I'm not sure what his professional field actually is.  Anyways, he does weather forecasting as a hobby and is actually quite good.  I will normally look to his forecasts over the local TV meteorologists.  Here is his latest message regarding the weather of late.

Quote
An additional 0.4” of rain yesterday brings the total since Friday to 5.5” of rain.  More rainfall expected today, tonight, and on Friday.  However axis of potential heaviest rainfall appears to be shifting to our west and north, over northern MS & western/central TN.  NWS HSV still says another 1” – 2” of rain possible through Saturday evening.

Attention is beginning to shift now to potential for severe weather on Saturday.  It appears that the threat for strong/severe storms late Saturday afternoon into the evening hours is increasing.  Right now the greatest threat for severe weather looks like it will be (again) to our west and north over eastern AR, northern MS, and western TN.  However we (HSV) are on the edge of the enhanced threat and so need to continue to monitor the situation.  All modes of severe weather appear possible including hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.  Think the damaging wind threat is probably the greatest threat for the TN valley.  With saturated soil, it won’t take much in the way of wind to bring down more trees onto power lines, roofs, and cars.

As cold front pushes through Saturday evening, severe threat and rain will come to an end and will see some clear, sunny weather for a change on Sunday into next week.

Recommend attention to local media & NWS forecasts on Saturday.

Rained all night.  Almost 2" more since noon yesterday and another 2" expected the next 24 hours.
