Yes, unlike the American version, these Asian variety like to hibernate in wooden structures, like houses.

Worse still is the stink bug, particularly the brown marmorated stink bug accidentally imported from Asia in the mid-to-late 1990s.  These suckers have proliferated and are a much bigger pest than those lady bugs.  They also will winter in your house.

I've been bit once by a stinkbug.  Surprised me because of how often I've picked them up without getting bit.  According to stinkbugsguide.net, "Normally they do not [bite]... However, they do bite humans when they feel threatened.... As a result of their bite a person may feel painful, but harmless, swelling or rashes on the affected part of the body."   Click here for link

That explains why I never saw these things growing up then.  "Invading force" is an accurate description at my pacle.

What kind of damage were the aphids causing?
