Expecting a little ice this morning. I finally got to go walk as it was a balmy 24 degrees when I got up. When I got to the lake, it was still dark, but I could tell something was odd. I threw a rock to the lake and it sounded like TV ricochet sound effects. The lake is frozen solid.Tried to take pics with my phone, but it was too dark to really tell anything, even with the flash. I may go by there again and try when I go into work.

Game day indeed. #17 coming tonight!!!

I thought maybe you'd fallen into (onto?) the lake this morning.  I'm about ready to head to the gym.  Lots of good reading in threads today; nothing evil or surprising.

ROLL TIDE indeed.  I'm expecting an entertaining butt whipping tonight en route to #17.  Of course, we'll have the whiners, but it should be fun anyhow!

Good morning folks.  School is cancelled for today since some of the mountain roads are icy.  Nothing but rain for my drive into the office this morning.  Y'all stay safe...

Schools are closed here too. I don't think we'll get anything though.

I went back and took a pic of the lake during daylight. It is indeed, completely frozen. Don't see that very often in the south.

Friend of mine found 5 ducks dead on his frozen pond yesterday: 3 mallards and 2 merganzers.  That's weird.

One of my brothers has a small farm just east of Athens.  He showed me a pic of his first calf to be born this year.  It apparently was born and then went walking out onto his frozen pond where it slipped and fell.  Since it was a newborn and not very strong or stable on it's feet it lay there and died.  He was wondering how he might could get it off the ice before it melted...

Rope and hook.
If too far to throw, attach a hook to a rope, feed out line while walking around the pond, then snag and drag!

It if, or at least was frozen to the pond ice.  I offered to loan him a flat bottom boat that he could drag across the ice and cut the ice then roll the calf into the boat.  He didn't seem interested though.  I really expect him to leave it there...

Well, if he doesn't get it off the ice VERY SOON, the ice will be gone anyhow!
