The back-to-back NCAA champion Alabama gymnastics team led all Southeastern Conference gymnastics programs in the classroom with a league-best 13 upperclassmen earning berths on the SEC Academic Honor Roll Commissioner Mike Slive announced Wednesday.
"To have every one of our upperclassmen earn this award on the heels of winning our second-consecutive NCAA Championship says a great deal about the emphasis that our ladies put on excelling in both the classroom and the gym," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said.
The Crimson Tide, which won its sixth NCAA Championship and second in a row last Saturday, will add to its Academic Honor Roll total in the summer when the SEC announces its freshmen honors. Beyond leading the league this season, Alabama also leads the SEC all-time with 242 honors since the award's inception in 1984.
