Quote
Tomorrow — or, if you’re reading this Sunday morning, today — marks one week since Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino was in a motorcycle accident with UA football employee Jessica Dorrell. And for the past few days since a police report exposed what points to being an affair with Dorrell, there have been numerous calls for Petrino’s resignation/firing.

Some think Petrino didn’t uphold a moral or ethical standard that’s expected of him, but the consensus is that the more significant crime is the cover up that spilled over to the workplace. Petrino lied to his boss, athletic director Jeff Long (pictured), by withholding information about Dorrell and put UA in an HR bind by possibly committing a quid pro quo with Dorrell, who was hired to her current job on March 28......

Dishonesty is a big word, especially in the business world and it has crippled or destroyed many of them over the years. In Petrinos case, I think it would relect more as being something like a cancer cell in a human body. There have been times when the cancer has been cured in the human body but there have more times that it was not and became fatal to the patient.

This is my reasoning that I don't think that Petrino would survive if he is retained as the head coach. He has established himself as a liar and a cheat and that is a very serious label to have to wear, especially when you are in charge of hundreds of athletes that have been known to test the waters with their own problems with abiding by the rules.

They may keep him, but I just don't think he can oversome the issues at hand in a long term future as a head coach at Arkansas or any other school that may hire him. JMO

It is a sad state of affairs this day, and time..seems the public loves a scandal..we are getting more, and more like the British..they love things of this nature..a big soap opera. The man made a mistake, he is human..we all are if we have the gonads to admit it. If it could be found out, the public would be alarmed at the high percentage of people in this profession are doing the very same things, most do not get caught at it. I believe he will learn from his mistakes, and make things right, and will survive this.

You are completely missing the point. He's not in trouble for the affair. He's in trouble for lying to his boss, hiring someone who he is sleeping with, and involving a State Trooper Captain in the whole mess.

I think BP survives this incident. ARKY fans think they are closing the gap on LSU & Bama and have a shot at a BCS berth this year. And while the AD is supposedly in charge, everyone knows who runs the athletic department at most SEC schools.

Unless they uncover something else on Petrino, I agree with you. They will give him some type of harsh punishment, put him on probation, and keep him on a short leash.

The problem is that as a coach, you are teaching these young men to act responsibly and to always act correctly in every situation. A coach holds his players to a high standard of moral conduct. So how can Petrino stand in front of his players and instruct them to act responsibly in every situation when he has been exposed as a liar, adulterer, and cheater? His reputation has been damaged beyond repair and he can no longer claim the moral high ground in front if his players. In such a situation, he deserves to lose his job. He can find another coaching position elsewhere and attempt to start over, but at Arkansas he should be finished. That's my two cents, anyway.

Not all schools care about the high road.  Look at Auburn.

It's about money, not morality.  They pay Petrino for better behavior; he brings in mucho dinero.  It'll be a battle at Arky, lots of meetings, much input from alumni, and a constant confrontation between the moral-high-ground religious types and the need-the-money realists.

So true. That's why I'm so glad we have coach Saban. Say what you want about his perfectionist attitude, you will never catch Saban messing with the coeds. His integrity is unquestioned.

I would think if he can't be honest to his wife then he could never be honest to a recruit or player. He cheats on the lady he said till death do we part! What kind of morals does he even think to have? I would think he first thought would be to his wife and children or do they not matter to him at all? RTR!
