247 sports: Top questions for Bama this spring

Good read for the start of spring practice.

Quote
Both men’s and women’s basketball are making runs in the NIT, gymnastics could the top seed when the NCAA regional pairings are announced on Monday, softball will almost certainly be named No. 1 in the next polls, baseball just won its SEC opening series at Ole Miss, men’s and women’s golf are poised to make title runs …

And now football returns to the mix, with the start of spring practices. Coach Nick Saban is back from Lake Burton, the players are fresh off spring break and the Crimson Tide will host the first of 15 organized workouts Monday afternoon.

Here are 10 things to look between now and A-Day on April 16 (2 p.m., ESPNU)...

1. Who will be the starting quarterback?...
2. What changes will happen on the offensive line?...
3. How will the defensive line reload?...
4. Who will step up at wide receiver?...
5. What will be the pecking order at running back?...
6. Can another Preston Dial be found?...
7. How well will the new coaches mesh?...
8. Might the most intense competition be in the secondary?...
9. How will the best players get on the field?...
10.Will the new players make successful transitions?...

So with HTWMI gone, does TR move up to fourth on the RB depth chart.  Smiley

TR is going to take this team over like a storm and I think/pray Lacy will fix his fumble problem and he will be a pusher just like TR was to MI. RTR!

I think EL gets a lot of undue negativity cast his way.  He had two early fumbles last year in games that were not a contest.

Yes, all turnovers we lose are bad, but it has been made to seem as if he is a liability to the team at times.

Unfortunately for him, we all had very high expectations of seeing him compete last year for a major share of the carries based off of all the hype he had received during 2009.  So, when are first impressions were of him fumbling for a touchback against SJSt in the opener and subsequently getting an earful and some time on the bench to think about it, we started to take notice.  When he fumbled again a few games later inside the red zone, we were certain CNS would kill him...fortunately MFBATR ran to provide a safe escort off the field and away from the HC.

So, in spite of going on to lead the team in average yards per carry as recovered from his early faults, most Bama fans have become disenfranchised with him and are ready to forever labeled him a fumble risk.  Is it true...time will tell.  Is it fair...no.

We had some other RBs over the last couple of years with some big fumbles with a lot more on the line than a SJSt game...especially when everyone of them would have fumbled that ball with their whole body got contorted in the air and a helmet luckily hitting the right spot.  Yet, we overlook those fumbles as they have had the opportunity to wash them away with good moments prior to the actual first fumble.

Much like the Leigh Tiffin haters who couldn't let go of his first year struggles (particular against Arky), EL is in danger of always being type cast as a potentail team risk for the rest of his career at Bama.  Leigh went on to become our most productive PK ever, yet his first year woes still followed him in the eyes of some fans.

First impressions are hard to get over for some, but I think he is set to be a dominant RB for us.  He is just as explosive, powerful, and as much a home run threat as any RB on our team.  He may drop one again, but I bet this year and next he does a lot more good to wash away those bad moments.  Hopefully, we can cut him some slack in the meantime.

I only recall two fumbles by EL. One was definitely helmet on ball, which happens to the best. The other, to my recollection, was when a hole opened up so big he may have dropped the ball in disbelief.

Well I don't disagree so maybe he will be the man this year behind TR. I know Lacy has speed ability and runover people strength to me. I guess I just want him to be the man to bad sometimes. RTR!
