we're just lucky we're in a bowl game at all.  Apparently we should be playing UCLA or Western Kentucky if we were so fortunate as to be in a bowl game.  From what I read the SEC is just a little below Conference USA and just a little above the Ivy League.  I guess we'll have to beat LSU 44-0 in order to get any credit.  For heaven's sake, the teams (Bama and LSU) were tied in regulation.  OSU was tied with ISU.  These people believe the NC should be decided by the goofiest OT procedure in sports?  Give me a break!

I think the way overtime is done is stupid.  I don't now how I'd change it but I hate how it is done.

I like this idea.  I definitely like OT instead of a tie, we just need to tweak it a little bit.  If there was a way that we could minimize the importance of the coin toss that would be good too.  Starting at the 50 actually helps that some since you can't just go 3 and out then kick a FG.

I like the way the pros do it except only in playoff mode where if a team scores on the first drive after kickoff, the other team gets the same opportunity.

I like the current OT in college and wish the NFL would adopt it.  Each team gets a shot.  You can't really eliminate the coin toss... both teams are tied.  Sucks if you're on the wrong end but it is MUCH more exciting then what the NFL has.

I'm sorry I forgot to use my sarcasm font for the first part of that post.  I'm just saying we're being disrespected and we need to kick some ash.

I'm so used to WV's sarcasm that I automatically inserted it as I read your post.  I know what you mean.  LSU winning by 3, even after trailing the entire game, gave them a WIN and us a LOSS.  Those labels have grown over the past month to monster labels, making us unworthy to compete with the mighty LSU team.

Come January 9 (which is a full-moon night, BTW) Alabama will regain their respect, be crowned national champions, and LSU will lose it's label as "maybe the best college team of all time".

Just the way it works.  Bastids.  Angry

Yes, I like the NFL model too.  Statistics show that the team winning the coin toss and taking the ball in pros has a 51% chance of victory (even without the playoff rule), so it is pretty close to even odds.  (I don't know what odds are in college given that one teams has to go first while the other team watches.)  Also, the pro model includes components of special teams and field position that are completely ignored in the college model.

I imagine the college model was adopted because of all the conferences that don't play defense.  So while the NFL model would be fine for the SEC, in other conferences it might not work as evenly.  Adding the NFL playoff rule might take care of that -- I don't know.  I would like to see the NFL playoff model used in the SEC, but everyone has to play by the same rules, and these spread offense no defense conferences probably won't go along with it.

The only problem I had with the NFL model was that you were not guaranteed to even get the ball.  I was not aware of the playoff rule.  So if you are guaranteed to get the ball at least one time, I think the NFL playoff model is a good way to go, especially if you don't get an advantage by winning the coin toss.

Here is my OT Proposal: football is comprised of offense, defense, and special teams. Team #1 has to punt the ball from their 15 yd line and team #2 starts from the end of the return. After #2 either scores or turns the ball over on downs or a turnover, Team #2 punts the ball from their 15 yd line and Team #1 starts from the end of their return. This would take into account offense, defense, and the kicking game.

Can we leave the special teams part out of it?  Undecided
