TUSCALOOSA — As long as there’s a Thompson on the bench, big, physical and Georgetown remain synonymous.

Add young to that list this year.

John Thompson III will bring 10 freshmen and sophomores to Coleman Coliseum against No. 12 Alabama. As part of the Big East/SEC Challenge, buzz surrounding a rare visit from the Hoyas had the game close to a sellout Wednesday evening.

The full house will see an unranked Georgetown (5-1) team that’s taken down big-name competition already this season. It’s only loss came to No. 14 Kansas in the Maui Invitational where the Hoyas upset then-No. 8 Memphis, 91-88 in overtime two days later.

Alabama carries a spotless 7-0 record through the early season, but it hasn’t seen a roster like Georgetown’s that features just two players shorter than 6-foot-5.

“We’re going to do what we do,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. “They’re a very dangerous offensive team and they’ve got a lot of different weapons from the perimeter. In the post, they have great size at each position.”

Good game tonight, I am looking forward to it. It should be a sold out game.

Probably because they are a very young team, freshmen and sophs, and didn't get much preseason hype.  But they should be ranked by now, you would think.

A little dip here, jump there, hop over yonder and they will be ranked soon. They will for sure if they beat us so we have to not be the stepping stone for them. RTR!

Those big boys will have their hands on hips by mid-way 2nd half. Hopefully those hands will be on Hoya hips. Bama cannot get down early or have 7 minute "droughts". They bring a big man's game to Tuscaloosa, but we should challenge every dribble, every pass and shot. Force them out of their game and then we'll see if the Tide can shoot well enough to win.

Green can handle himself well enough underneath. But we need some shooting to open things up, offensively. I hope TM and JG are full speed. One of the two will need a big night and here is hoping they BOTH catch fire. There is no rule against it. TM opens things with a couple of 3s, JG finds the target on a couple of 6 footers, and Releford starts driving the lane.

If JG can stay out of foul trouble and Mitchell isn't hobbled I'll go with 65-58 Bama.

Alabama is No. 4 in RPI with a SOS of 21. Georgetown is 140 in RPI with a SOS of 254. I know Georgetown has played some cupcakes but a close loss to Kansas and a win over Memphis should have their RPI and SOS in better shape than it is.

This would be a huge win for this team. Tide, 68-61.
