NEW YORK — The voters in The Associated Press college football poll are clear on which two teams they believe are the best in the country.

LSU is the unanimous No. 1 for a third consecutive week and Alabama received all the second-place votes for a second straight week.

The SEC West powers are on course for a rematch in the BCS championship game on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.

Oklahoma State moves up to No. 3 on an off week, taking advantage of Arkansas' tumble from No. 3 to No. 6 after the Razorbacks lost 41-17 at LSU on Friday.

Stanford is No. 4, just five points behind Oklahoma State. Virginia Tech is No. 5.

Looks right to me. Probably not as accurate as the Crimson Red Poll but it will do.

I'll say it again. Mississippi State is better than over half these teams.

It is good to see a fight for 3rd place with Stanford and Oklahoma State splitting votes.  Of course this poll has no bearing at all on the BCS game, but maybe the other polls will have them fighting for 3rd too.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban acknowledges the fans after Alabama's 42-14 win in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday, November 26, 2011 in Auburn, Ala. (The Birmingham News, Hal Yeager)

Gap between Nos. 1-2 LSU and Alabama and the rest widens in coaches' poll

Quote
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- LSU remains a unanimous choice as the No. 1 team in the USA Today coaches' poll, and Alabama remains No. 2.

And this week, the Crimson Tide's lead over the No. 3 team is huge.

A week ago, Alabama had 1,413 votes. This week, it actually lost two points despite a 42-14 victory at Auburn.

But last week, Alabama led No. 3 Arkansas by 64 points.

This week, the Tide leads No. 3 Virginia Tech by 120 points. The Hokies are only two points ahead of No. 4 Stanford and 46 points ahead of No. 5 Oklahoma State.

Arkansas fell to No. 10.

Earlier today, LSU and Alabama were unanimous choices at Nos. 1-2 in The Associated Press poll.

The AP poll is not part of the BCS standings. One-third of a team's BCS rating is a result of the coaches' poll, one-third is a result of the Harris poll and one-third is a result of an average of six computer rankings.

The new BCS standings will come out tonight. The ones that matter come out a week from tonight.

Alabama and LSU are expected to meet on Jan. 9 in the BCS Championship Game in New Orleans in a rematch of a Nov. 5 game, which LSU won 9-6 in overtime at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
