Well, stopping the run is the Tide specialty, so I don't see a lot of success by Southern. Plus, our defense is too quick on the edges, where the options thrives.

[color=blueNick Saban has a challenge this week. He has to convey, in four practices, how to defend against Georgia Southern's option offense.

Saban, the University of Alabama's head football coach, has that same challenge every week. The difference is that this week he'll be schooling a defense that hasn't seen a similar offense, so there's no frame of reference for players to fall back upon.][/color]

Bama's D could use some work on the option -- that is about the only thing LSU had any success with.

Even though I believe we will win the game handily, I'm a little concerned with the option simply because it forces our big guys to run east to west much more than they would normally. Someone who is better at strategy than me (hscoach or anyone else) tell me, when facing the option, would the DBs play much closer to the line than normal?

IMO the wishbone option will not be effective against the Bama D. We will be able to stop the FB up the middle with our D line and that allows the LB to run free. We have too much speed to run wide plays. The wishbone is no longer around because of the speed the defenses have these days. GS best chance against us is to run the ball and take a long shot every now and then hoping to get the DB cheating against the run.

True that.  They may be like Appalachian State, but we aren't Michigan.

I've been thinking the same thing.  Originally I was thinking too bad this game wasn't before the LSU game.  But just now I thought... hmmm... good thing this game is before the next LSU game.  Cheesy

Georgia Southern will run an offense similar to Georgia Tech. It is nothing like the option LSU runs.

This is true, but it will be a good exercise on knowing your assignments, maintaining outside leverage (this is where JJ got us), and executing.
