My first thought was, "doesn't he have to be cleared to play through the NCAA.". GPA.? Etc.  I wonder if he is a walk- on or something.  I too wish I knew, "the rest of the story".

The major question is can these great high school kickers make the transition to college without the use of a block?  By Colt David's Sr year he was using a 1 inch block and practicing without one when the season was over.  I think this is something all college coaches should, and probably do, address with incoming kickers.

I heard this story on Rick & Bubba on my drive to work this morning. The kicker was a walk-on. He was offically listed as a redshirt freshman. He was not asked to dress out and did not have a ticket to the game. Dooley had the police go get him from his frat house. He was previously cleared to practice and play for the team. This was not some random student they found on a minutes notice.
