I think the biggest need for the kicking program is for the kickers already there to just improve their game. All of them can kick, but their consistency of making them seems to be the problem. Some good coaching and mental therapy can do wonders. RTR!!  Wink
^^^ A back-up plan is good. But the new kicker will still have to go "head up" with Shelley and Foster,--and you know how that goes. I wouldn't expect production out of Griffith until 2013. Early enrollment would help.

Look, competition breeds success. Good quality competition is always good. It will help both kickers. Right now we have a short kicker and a long kicker. We should have one guy do it all.
Unless I'm leaving someone out, that'll be 3 schollies tied up for that position. Also a lot of 'cruiting sweat and blood. It seems the very best FG/KO specialist in the Southeast/nation would pay to come to Bama to get his NFL audition.
Shelly wasn't offered a scholarship but was invited to walk on.  I don't know if he has a scholarship now, but he did not when he enrolled.

Point taken, we still need to bring in a new one every couple of years (punter too).

Here is a good link-- hot off the press:

Rivals/bleacherreport but it has in depth look AND a poll to vote in.

Chris Sailor of Scout.Com says:
Quote
Adam may be the most talented kicker that I have ever seen. He has big time leg and hits an absolutely huge ball. His field goals come off his foot like a rocket. His kickoffs are tops in the nation. Adam hit one wind-aided kickoff 90 plus yards with 4.40 second hang time. No one can match his talent.

Shelly is not on scholarship but we have a scholarship tied up on back up punter Jay Williams from Thomasville. Williams is a redshirt freshman that has not seen the field yet.

Kickers are nothing but a "mental case" that plays football, they walk with a different beat of the drum.  Smiley

Has anyone beside me looked at the technique of the Griffith kid vs Foster.  This is something I have mentioned in the past about his not following thru on his kick.  Look at the difference of CF technique in high school vs now.  Then look at the Griffith kid and how he extend and goes thru the footbal when he kicks.  CF does not even have the same kicking motion he did in high school.

With "all the film in the world" how are they missing this. He looks like he is stopping to pick up his tee, or while he's all bent over from not following through, he figures he may as well get the tee?

Well either way our kicking game has to improve. Whether it be with a new kicker or someone teaching the existing how to punt correctly. I punted in high school and if you can't keep that body forward when punting you are not going to get the height nor power through that kick. Cody lays back to much and CF or Shelley I'm not sure what the problem is, but we need help in a hurry. I wish one of the soccer player's would walk up and show CNS how kicking should be an art. RTR!
