Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Offensive play calling has fallen off since Sark left for Texas, IMO.

I don’t know how to separate play calling from loss of speedy receivers, O-line, and power backs. So I’m not blaming O’Brien.

Plus, what’s behind him?  We could be worse off!

Well if he goes I almost bet CNS has someone else already in line. RTR!

I think most of the receivers can run slants. That has always been successful in the past but you rarely see it called now. You are correct about the O line and lack of power backs still being a concern, but I still think the play calling lacks some imagination. Seems pretty vanilla to me.

Well in the nfl you have power backs and fast WR's with usually good O-line then you can call a vanilla plays but in college you got to know your strengths and use them. RTR!

It has been several years since Alabama had a really good run blocking line.   (i.e. line up for a 3rd and 1 and absolutely know you can run for the first down)

For some reason our usage of the RPO is way down this year, and I'm not sure that I understand why.  I suppose it's possible that we've intentionally used a vanilla game plan so far (possibly underestimated TX because we sure seemed to be a different offense in the 4th).

I have to say I'm pulling for O'Brien to get the job.  He's the most qualified and  and he's very deserving of the head coach position.

A better OC who will have his career and reputation rehabilitated by working with Saban then leave for one of our rivals and play us tough. Banging your head against the wall.

Former Bama WR Mike McCoy seems to disagree with me (from an al.com article):  "McCoy called running back Jamhyr Gibbs the most explosive weapon on offense, but said through three games, “the play-calling’s still kinda basic.” He said no one would “rant and rave” about scoring a lot of points against an unranked non-conference opponent like Louisiana-Monroe. “From my end, I still think they’ve got some improvement to do.”

Sisler pressed McCoy to share what he’d said off-camera ahead of the show.

“I’m still not sold,” McCoy said. “I think we’re running elementary offense. I think it’s kinda like A&M. It’s basic...It’s a spread offense now...Let’s run some combo routes. Can we see some double moves? Can I see you take the top off? I mean, goodness. It’s like watching cold paint dry.

“There’s no creative, from what I’m seeing. And I feel you have the kind of caliber of players on the outside and in the backfield that can get it done."

I don't care what McCoy says.  He was recruited before we recruited Julio; back when WRs were seldom used compared to today.  Remember, Julio had a sophomore slump then.  I trust our coaches to add complexity as the season progresses.

Well my friend Chechem I am not to make you mad at me but I agree with Mike McCoy somewhat cause it almost seems like in Texas game we called the same plays over and over. RTR!

No offense taken, Bro Ricky.  That's what's fun here on CRS; we give opinions and laugh at each other.
