TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Alabama was too hyped up for its game Saturday at Florida, Alabama coach Nick Saban said after the game, and it showed when the Gators threw a touchdown pass on the first place from scrimmage.
Containing emotion shouldn't be a problem for the second-ranked Crimson Tide (5-0) when it plays host to Vanderbilt (3-1) at 6 p.m. CDT Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Saban talked about mental preparation today on the Southeastern Conference coaches' teleconference.
"A lot of people think every game is about emotion," he said. "When you have emotional teams, you have teams that have severe ups and downs.
"When you have a team that has great competitive character and a bunch of guys that really want to do good and have some goals and aspirations for what they want to accomplish personally and collectively as a team, you've got a lot better chance to be consistent."
Saban reiterated his mantra about playing to a standard.
"Our approach is we usually try to make it about who you are and what you do," he said. "Do you want to be the best player you can be?
