Mrs dottie and I just watched this movie and I have to say it was the best movie I have ever seen or is on the list. This is when Tony Nathan played for Woodlawn and Jeff Rutledge played for Banks High Schools. It was great. RTR!

I have not seen the movie yet but I want to. That is a time I remember well. It is based on the 1974 football season. That was my senior year at Huffman. Banks and Woodlawn were our main rivals. Those teams were good, especially Banks.

A flashback to my high school days.

Senior year 1974
Record 5-5
Lost to Banks 35-0
Lost to Woodlawn 25-7

Junior Year 1973
Record 7-2-1 (Only 8 teams made the playoffs in those days)
Lost to Banks 24-7
Lost to Woodlawn 35-12

Sophomore Year 1972
Record 11-2
Beat Woodlawn 20-6
Lost to Banks 23-6 (Reg season)
Lost to Banks 34-8 (4A State Finals) (4A was largest classification at that time.)

Those were fun times. Too bad my parents moved just a few blocks on the north side of Highway 11 in Roebuck rather to the south. I would have been a two time state champion at Banks.

Woodlawn was a very good movie.

Pmull, I dated a girl who went to Huffman about the time you did. I don't remember how far she went, as her family moved to Montgomery. We went to visit her sister who still lived in Roebuck. I remember they lived near Huffman High School.

Yeah, yeah.  Sure, sure!  But the real question is, did SHE know YOU?

"Woodlawn" also kicked off Caleb Castille's acting career.  I believe Caleb had a cup of coffee with the Alabama football team, but his Dad (Jeremiah) and brother (Simeon) had pretty solid careers at Bama.   I think Jeremiah was even the team chaplain for a bit.

I'm sure some of you watch the various NCIS series.   Caleb is now a regular on NCIS:Los Angeles.  I wonder if Jacob Black (2nd lead character on NCIS:New Orleans and grew up in Speake, AL) had anything to do with that?   Lucas commonly drops Roll Tides on NCIS:NO.

I played a round of golf with Lucas at Deer Run in Moulton back in the early 2000s.   He'd already been in some movies (Slingblade, Crazy in Alabama) but was still a great guy and fun/competitive to play golf with.  He had some good stories too about how he spent a lot of time with Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith during the shooting of Crazy in Alabama.   He said they'd just let him come eat dinner and treat him like a son at their house and ended up buying him a 60k bass boat when filming ended.   He told it all in a grateful, non-braggadocios way.  It made me feel that not everyone in Hollywood is a bunch of wankers.

We used to watch NCIS and the Los Angeles one too. They got to where they cussed so much I had to stop watching. The movies were good but the language just ruined it. I use to like Gibbs who was Harmon who played college football at UCLA. RTR!

I hear you Ricky, but the NCIS shows are some of the cleanest on TV, especially the original.  I know morality doesn't have a sliding scale in the eyes of the Lord, but I'm not sure you'd be faulted for enjoying Gibbs and NCIS.

I really like Lucas Black. Is he back on NCIS New Orleans? Mrs 2 and I quit watching that show because they killed him off. The news said Lucas wanted to spend more time with family.

I actually didn't know that, 2.  I haven't followed the show in the recent seasons.   But that's more confirmation that Lucas is just a solid, down to earth fellow.  He never lost his accent or tried to be someone he wasn't

No offense, HL, but this phrase usually means he got caught with his ___ in the cookie jar.  Usually doesn't mean he's a stand-up guy.

Same thing happened with Urban Meyer when he left Florida... and Ohio State...
