Wednesday before South Carolina:

With lightning in the area, Alabama worked inside while preparing for its SEC opener.

...

In the secondary, Alabama worked on the dime package during the viewing, with true freshman Jordan Battle and senior Shyheim Carter both in the mix.

I didn’t see Josh Jobe at practice.

Alabama offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor Jr. (knee) remained limited, but was participating in some drills. Center Chris Owens has been practicing this week after missing the New Mexico State game.

“Both players are practicing,” Nick Saban said On the SEC coaches’ teleconference with reporters on Wednesday morning. “Chris Owens probably is a little more up to speed. ...”

...

...

...

Reporters got a look at the first-team offensive line, with Owens back at center, and Landon Dickerson next to right tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. at right guard.

Matt Womack was on the second team at left guard. Kendall Randolph and Tommy Brown were on the right side.

Among the defensive linemen, true freshman Justin Eboigbe (foot) was practicing but ...

If we still have a 2 platoon team by the end of the year, I'll be surprised.

Hey 2 what do you think is going to happen? I hope we have a 2nd team as good as the first because the first team needs rest. RTR!

Preacher, we just need the injury bus to slow down. We've got players with little or no experience in several positions on D.

Wednesday before USM:

-- Starting outside linebacker Terrell Lewis, who was not spotted at Tuesday’s practice, was dressed for Wednesday’s practice but only appeared to watch ...

-- Alabama spent its walkthrough period open to reporters in its dime packages, with senior Jared Mayden and freshman Jordan Battle at safety. Patrick Surtain, Shyheim Carter, Trevon Diggs, Xavier McKinney and Anfernee Jennings were at the line of scrimmage. Shane Lee also joined that group at times.

** I heard from a good source this morning that LaBryan Ray is done for the year.  He had surgery on his foot Tuesday.

Monday before Ole Miss:

— ...Terrell Lewis (hyperextended knee) and nose tackle D.J. Dale (patellar tendon strain) weren’t going through drills. Lewis was dressed out for practice but was off to the side during outside linebacker drills. Nick Saban expects both Lewis and Dale to return to practice Tuesday. ....

— Kicker Will Reichard (pulled hip flexor) was dressed for practice and standing around ...  Saban referred to Reichard as “a little more day-to-day and a little more questionable (for this game)” than Lewis and Dale.

— Backup inside linebacker Markail Benton, who didn’t dress out for Saturday’s game against Southern Miss, was practicing.

Hard to get a good read on Lewis being held out.  At this point he gets held out for hang nails.  Rightfully so.  He knows the D.  As long as he knows the gameplan and can do enough to keep in shape, let him ride the stationary bike M-F.

"What Nick Saban said about Ole Miss, injured players"

Coach Saban was chatty Monday night.  Here's the abridged version.  Click the link for the full story.

Quote
-- The win over Southern Miss was “probably the most complete game” Alabama has played in all three phases.

...

-- Asked about philosophy change in SEC where top teams are passing heavy, Saban said it’s a trend in college football in general. “I think space play is much more important than it used to be years ago," he said. “The game has opened up to where horizontally and vertically you got to cover the entire field. ... I think that has created a lot more explosive plays on offense. People with good skill players and a quarterback can take advantage of those things."

-- DJ Dale and Terrell Lewis probably will not practice Monday but will return later to practice and could play Saturday. Saban called kicker Will Reichard “more day-to-day and more questionable” than the other injured players. “We need to get it right now” and not have Reichard’s injury aggravate him the rest of the season.

...

-- Asked about Deonte Brown, Saban said any player must beat out another player to see the field. ... “That’s up to him.”

....

-- Anfernee Jennings and Xavier McKinney have “tried to take up some of the slack” of leadership on defense after injuries to other past leaders. ...

-- Saban is pleased with the progress they see in Christian Barmore. “The challenge for us is to get him to do the things he needs to do ...

-- Saban said it is important to sign a “good quarterback” each recruiting season ...

-- Saban said Joseph Bulovas did a great job against Southern Miss. ...

I am interested to see how deep in the dog house Deonta Brown is. I do not expect him to start but I think we will see a difference in the run game when he enters the game. I hope he has learned from this, comes back in shape and regains his pre-injury play we saw last year.

Brown would help out but our nagging injuries is what kills us every year. Reichard could be of help but as long as JB keeps hitting the FG's and xp's we will be ok. RTR!

To you and mull:

Brown will likely see plenty of action against Ole Miss, but I agree that prolly he won't start.  But he needs repetitions in games to get back and ready.  If he's indeed out of the doghouse, then I expect we'll see him starting against A&M in 2 weeks.

New report just came out that Reichard won't play this week, but should be well for A&M.

Tuesday before Ole Miss game:

-- Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis was dressed and leading the positional drills after missing last week’s game against Southern Miss. He hyperextended his knee a week before that at South Carolina and he was letting it heal after a medical procedure ...

-- Defensive lineman D.J. Dale was dressed out for a second straight day but didn’t appear to be doing any of the drills again. He injured his patellar tendon against Southern Miss. ....

-- ... Deonte Brown was running with the second group at right guard. ...

-- Injured kicker Will Reichard was in full uniform for practice but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be doing much for the time being as his hip flexor injury heals.

It is good news to see some healing for the next game. Maybe we can take Ole Miss wth a lot of our injuries resting. RTR!
