With starting center Chris Owens dealing with a knee injury, head coach Nick Saban confirmed Landon Dickerson will move to center from right guard and Deonte Brown will replace Dickerson at right guard in this weekend’s matchup between the No. 1 Crimson Tide and No. 24 Texas A&M.

Quote
“(Brown)’s going to play right guard, Landon will play center and everybody else is really the same,” Saban said Thursday night on The Nick Saban Show. “But you have to practice all the time with these internal guys alternating their positions. It’s the only way that you can get the best five players on the field when you do have something happen to a particular person. So, having Deonte back is really good, and he’s practiced and played pretty well.”

Maybe with Brown in at RG we will see more of an inside run game...

Dickerson has been our most consistent O lineman. I see him making the transition well.

Tuesday of TN Week:

Landon Dickerson remained as Alabama’s first-team center Tuesday as the Tide practice indoors because of rain.

Chris Owens, who returned to practice this week after missing the Texas A&M game because of a knee injury, ran with the second team.

Deonte Brown was slotted in at right guard next to Dickerson with the first team and would likely remain as the starter if Dickerson stays at center.

“He did a nice job in the game,” coach Nick Saban said Monday of Dickerson. “He’d played it before. He’s practiced it a lot before. Deonte (Brown) is obviously, too, to be a very powerful guy playing guard, which is what you want inside with the players that you have. So, the combination of those guys worked out very well in this game.

More from Tuesday:

...

– ... Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis did get reps in the media viewing period, after not doing so yesterday.

– ... Christian Harris was seen in the Nickel package alongside Shane Lee. Alabama has attempted to help Harris’ transition by giving him less to prepare for in a given week, including rotating Anfernee Jennings and Markail Benton into some pass defense packages, but Harris got some work there today.

– ... Ale Kaho was shadowing Benton in drills. Thus, when it comes to Nickel, Benton is ahead of Kaho — which is expected, after Benton’s usage in the Texas A&M game.

Rain throughout the afternoon forced Alabama football inside ...

Freshman inside linebackers Shane Lee and Christian Harris remained with the first-team defense. Coach Nick Saban said Monday that there has been ongoing competition at inside linebacker.

Senior cornerback Shyheim Carter was wearing a brace on his left knee. Senior safety Jared Mayden had a brace on his right knee.

Sophomore cornerback Josh Jobe was off to the side during team drills. ...

Wednesday of TN Week:

- The offensive line groupings appear to be the same from earlier in the week. Landon Dickerson remains the first-team center ....

-- There were some different looks at middle linebacker at Texas A&M but Christian Harris and Shane Lee were still the first two in drills Wednesday. Markail Benton had an increased role against the Aggies. “Markail’s been injured and he was actually competing and we were going to try and create a role for him, and he pulled a hamstring and missed a couple of weeks,” Saban said Monday. “So, it was really to try and get him an opportunity, as well as maybe take some burden off the other guys ...”

-- We also noticed several offensive linemen wearing protective shells over their helmets ... It might not be new but it was the first time we’d spotted them.

I have to open this thread and read with one eye open. Always afraid of what I'll see, concerning new injuries. Looks like the guys are working through them a little bit at a time. Good to see McMillon's name at practice.

Dickerson could play QB if he wanted to. The guy is solid at every position he has played. Looks like maybe the O line is getting the chemistry it needs with this new lineup.

Defensively, the bottom line is, these young players are gaining experience every week. They showed flashes of a dominant D at times against A&M. Other times, not so much. But better than the performance against Ole Miss. Would really like to see them pull it all together against UT.

Yeah, the D isn't there yet.  But better every week; and healthier almost every week.  I like seeing Barmore coming along as a speed rusher from the middle.  He beat the A&M center a couple of times (and got his first sack).  Woot.

Late Wednesday:

Reichard remains “day-to-day.”

Reichard — who may end up getting back to punting when healthy in addition to kicking — punted some in practice Tuesday and kicked some Wednesday.

“It’s kind of like doc told me when I was coming off my hip surgery," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said. "He said, ‘It’s great to do the rehab, your work. I know all your life you’ve been taught to push, push, push, push, keep working. When it hurts, you work through it.' But he said, “For one time in your life when you’re hurt, when it hurts, you gotta stop.’ ...

Monday before Arkansas:

— As expected, Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t at practice, but he was on campus with a one-leg scooter (video in the link above).

“The expectation is he will be non-weight bearing for several days and then he’ll be able to come back as his rehab allows him,” Nick Saban said earlier Monday. “We’re hopeful that in a 10-day period, he’ll be back being able to do active-type rehab, and we’ll see how it goes from there. But these things are pretty unpredictable at this point.”

— Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian was next to Mac Jones as the quarterbacks went through a drill ...

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Mac,” Saban said. “With a week of preparation, I think he’ll do a lot better in this game.”

— Backup cornerback Josh Jobe was back practicing ...

— Left guard Evan Neal looked to be going through drills like normal. ....

Tuesday before Arkansas game:

– Chris Owens was the second-team center in offensive line drills today, but he was still wearing No. 84, the number he wears when he’s leaving open the option to play tight end...

– Both Terrell Lewis and Anfernee Jennings were getting reps today, both involved in the 7-on-7 pass defense work...

– Defensive line coach Brian Baker was handing out tough coaching today. ...
Baker was not pleased with his block shedders early on. It got better and the unit moved to the sled eventually.

Better be doing some shedding come game time.
