Hate it IF he goes but we needed a new coach in the worst way. Always changes when a coach is fired.

I wonder why he is wanting to transfer? You think he is afraid he will have to work to earn his job with the new coach. RTR!

I think some guys are just burned by what happened with the team & CAJ; the way the season played out. Some just want a change whether for the right reasons or not.  Our new BB coach is going to have his hands full turning this around.

Gottfried inherited a mess from Hobbs, took the program to heights unseen, then left a mess for Grant. Grant showed some early promise then left a mess for Johnson. Johnson showed some early promise and has left a mess for whoever is next. Hopefully whoever is next can break the cycle.

All that said, transferring is part of major college sports now, and that’s not going to change anytime soon unless the rules change. Most of the kids don’t have any loyalty to the schools they commit to beyond what the school can do to help them get paid at the next level. I can’t really blame for doing what they think is best for themselves, but it saddens me to see a generation that runs from adversity instead of learning from it and growing through it.

But maybe an elite coach will be willing to risk his career and come to Bama.

Is that the list of players staying or going?  If going, are we going to be able to  have a team next year?  Assuming they find a coach that is...

They've all entered the "transfer portal" so that they can have contact with other coaches.  They can still return, and I expect some may depending on our coaching hire.

There’s no doubt the players have learned from their elders - especially the coaches who jump at the first opportunity to move up, leaving the kids they recruited behind. I don’t really blame the kids. It’s time for us to give up on the idea that the players who come here feel any sense of loyalty to the University. We can bemoan the lack commitment all we want, but it’s not changing.

We can also give up on the idea of an established, elite coach coming here. Our best hope is a young coach who will build something lasting. Gottfried was heading in the right direction and then got tired or distracted or who knows what. Whoever we get needs to have the ability to control a team. None of Gottfried, Grant, and Johnson has had that.

I say if they don't want to be here, don't let the door hit you in the a@@ on the way out.  I want players who want to compete.

I agree to a point. Petty says he’s leaving no matter who the new coach is. I think he may be upset that after 2 years he has regressed with no real development, thanks to CAJ. Giddens (The Statue) needs to go to a smaller program like UAH, Lewis is getting interest from Tennessee & Duke. I think the players are finished waiting on Bama basketball to get its act together, like us. Can’t really blame them.
