Thanks for the reporting.  Same old same old.  Sloppy play, lack of effort, failure to finish.

You in the fire CAJ column now?

I'm not a jump on the bandwagon kind of guy.

We fired Gottfried, team got worse.

We fired Grant, team got better.  (Probably not as good as Gottfried, but recruiting  has been good.)

So we fire CAJ and hope we can convince someone outstanding to come to Bama?

If CAJ leaves voluntarily, it's different.  We don't scare potential coaches into thinking they are on a short fuse and have to win at Bama, which is a challenge.   Thinking they can get fired one season after making the NCAA Tournament second round.

Still, I think this team has potential, maybe next year.

Part of the problem is the University.  It rewards those who purchase multi-sport season tickets with better football tickets.  So those with means do that, but rarely show up for basketball games.  I actually heard someone in that category say he bought tickets "to support the team," but he never went to basketball games.  So it's hard to get good attendance, especially close to the court where the high rollers sit.

And face it -- Bama is a football school.

So I'm not ready to fire CAJ just yet, but if he goes voluntarily he goes, and I won't be heart broken.

Very well stated, CP. E-cred. Another thing to consider is that he has a strong recruiting class coming in next year. The question is; can he do anything with it?

Bama has missed the tourney the last 11 out of 13 years.  Maybe it's not easy to put a real contender on the floor of Coleman, but the program should have the ability to make the tournament 2 out of 3 years (or at least 50%).  Wimp went 10 out of 11 seasons at a time where it may have been more difficult to get in.  Johnson has done some good things.  The recruiting is better, for sure.  I'm sure he's a better fund raiser than Grant.  Grant barely even spoke to the media, much less engaged with the fanbase.

I was not on the "fire Avery" bandwagon a couple weeks ago, and I'm not completely there at this point.  The play on the court is telling though.  Several good players (or at least guys with ability), but the fundamentals and heart just aren't there.  The lack of fundamentals (ball handling, passing, movement without the ball, FT shooting, reacting to changes in the oppositions D, etc) is alarming.  We are one of the worst ball handling and passing teams I have ever seen in major college basketball.

You're absolutely right about the season ticket problem.  It appears 3/4 of the season ticket holders are just throwing money to increase their Tide Totals (or whatever the Tide Pride point system is called these days).

I don’t have any idea what’s going on with CAJ or the team. All I know is that the first two years he was here he had teams with little to no talent that played above the level of the individual players. The last two years with good talent the team has played below the level of the individual players. That’s a problem.

I’m not ready to advocate firing him, but if next year is not any better I wouldn’t him around any more.

With the right coach Bama could be conistently successful in basketball. The students support the team well, and if the team ever really gets rolling the money guys will probably start showing up too.

Anthony Grant won at a higher percentage than Avery Johnson .579 to .563, the percentage of conference wins is the difference AG, .524 while AJ is .485.  I may be wrong, but I don't remember the numerous turnovers when Grant was here.  It looked to me as if the players have quit on AJJ.  I stated the game before how a player walked right past AJJ as he was getting on him about a play.  Last night he had AJJ in and rotating around to the corner where we were getting wide open 3 shots.  I think AJJ is shooting about 13% from 3 point range.

I have one question before I spell it in capital letters. Are these the last guys recruits or are they CAJ recruits? RTR!

Norris was the last guy.  Not sure if there are any others.  BTW, Norris may not be the most talented guy on the team but he is by far the hardest working and always gives effort.

Call the coroner.  There has been a fatal car crash, and most of the occupants were not buckled up.

I can't tell you that your statistics are wrong, but they are misleading.  In 2011 and 2013, Alabama finished with records of 25-12 (12-4) and 23-13 (12-6) and didn't get a tournament invitation either year.  The SEC was down, and Grant's out of conference scheduling was against paper dolls.  If Alabama finished with that kind of record with this year's schedule, we'd have a 4 or 5 seed in the tournament.

Anthony Grant won 1 (one) game vs a top 25 opponent in his final five seasons at Alabama.  One.  Johnson won 12 straight against ranked opponents at home.

That's the reason I'm willing to give CAJ some slack.  He's shown that he can win.

Who knows what is going on with the team these past few weeks and why they run out of steam in the second half.  Diet.  Conditioning. Poor hotel beds.  Lack of sleep.  Laziness.  Lack of motivation or effort.  Substance use.  The Flu.  A stomach bug.  Women.  Could be anything.

I think Dazon Ingram is Grant's too. I may be mistaken, though.

I can agree with that, but I don't think I have seen a team that looks like they have quit like I have the last few games.

The last 3 games have been almost unforgivable.  I'll give you that.  If the next 5 games continue down the same path, we've got a big, big problem.

I am beginning to wonder if some of the rumors are true about CAJ looking for a place to go and maybe the players have gotten hold of it. RTR!
