My hate of Tenn started during the middle 1960s; some classic games.  But it got worse after I attended the Tenn game in 1969. I was a Bama student, and we drove to Bham. My date then announced she'd forgotten her ticket (yes, I'd asked before we left; wrong purse). I paid some crazy amount for a new one from scalpers, then we got our asses kicked 41-14 by Tenn. That girl later married a friend of mine.  Didn't turn out well for him either.

My kids and the young people I work with think I am exaggerating when I say that UT used to be a bigger rival than Auburn. I have hated UT for the last 50 years. I do not smoke but it makes me want a cigar just thinking about beating them.

(I was pulling for UT against Auburn last week.  )

I started going to Bama games in 1993, and actually sat in the student section as a 13yo at Legion Field that year.  (My sister was a sophomore, and boy, was that a "culturing" experience for a young sheltered 13yo kid)  That year Tennessee broke a seven game winning streak by Alabama with a 17-17 tie.  I did not kiss my sister, but I understood what CPB meant.  It was a bad taste in the mouth.

I then went to 5 straight home loses to Tennessee, through the point that I graduated in 2004.  Neither my sister or I are allowed to attend graduate school at Bama and rekindle that bad juju.

I still do not hate Tennessee as badly as I hate Auburn.  I was also a student during Wingnut's run against Alabama.  These students today...so spoiled.

1973, I had a bet with my date that Bama would beat UT. We watched the game at her house. Bama won 42-21. I can't mention on here what the stakes were, but I had a smile on my face for a loooooong time.  Cheesy

A friend of mine sent me a message on Sunday saying that it is, "hate Tennessee week."  I replied saying that I am an overachiever, I hate 10rsea all year long...

Doc, after reading your posts I think you should be barred from even attending Bama games...  Laughing Laughing Laughing

I was at that 17-17 game.  Last tie we will ever have.  Had it not been for the Deuce it would have been a loss.

I was a sophomore that year too.  Ya'll must have gotten there really early because we couldn't find a seat anywhere in the student section.  We ended up standing behind the end zone.  And as luck would have it, it was the opposite end of the field from where the Deuce worked his magic at the end of the game.  We had to listen to the crowd reaction to know if he made it into the end zone.  I think I still have that ticket stub somewhere.

My date wasn't so gullible.

I was at that game (Bham).  It started with Bama kicking off into the endzone.  After 3 plays the ball was astride the 30 yard line.  Instead of the refs signalling first down, Coach Bryant walked out and asked for a measurement.  It was short.  Bill Battle stormed onto the field, and he got a 15 yard penalty.  It was all over after that.

As I remember back then, anyone could walk down to field level at Legion Field and enter the student section from the ground, even though there were fences in the stands.  My future BIL and I did have student guest passes though.

I really laughed at his story.  My Dad swears he went to a high school playoff game a few years ago where when the home team had the ball the chain crew would spin the chain around the poles and make the chain about 9 yards long.

I don't doubt it.

That game in Bham was on Astro Turf, so the lines were painted on.  I've always wondered if Coach Bryant knew the lines were wrong or what.  Otherwise, that was the worst call I've ever seen in the SEC.  I'm serious when I say the ball was astride the 30.

Living up here in Middle Tennessee this is probably the most enjoyable time of the year for me but after Tennessee beat Auburn the trash talk has begun I really hope that we run the score up. Since they hired Pruit and beat a discombobulated aubarn the delusional  fans actually think  they will embarrass us in Knoxville  Stars
