ALABAMA WINS THIRD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Arlington, Texas - The University of Alabama Women's Wheelchair Basketball team won their 3rd straight National Championship today beating 2nd seed University of Wisconsin Whitewater by a score of 58-56.
This is the fourth straight year that Alabama advanced to the finals and they have won the Crimson Tide has won the national championship the last three years in a row. Alabama split with the War-hawks during the regular season losing two games and winning two before the showdown in the championship game which Alabama led from very early and never relinquished. The Tide led by 6 at the half and 12 with 7 minutes to go in the game before Whitewater closed to within 2 in the final second, before Alabama held on for the win the championship game.
Karolina Lingyte led Alabama with 20 points on 9 for 14 shooting while pulling 13 rebounds. Elisha Williams also chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds for Alabama, while Cindy Oulette scored 10 and Katie Harnock rounded out the balanced attack with 10 points. Emily Seelenfreund played 13 minutes of intense full court defense in the game during two of Alabama's defensive runs. Alabama finished their third National Championship Season in a row with an overall record of 24-8. made the all rookie team.
Alabama also cleaned up on National awards at the banquet after the tournament. Annika Zeyen, Emily Seelenfruend,and Lindsey Metz all made the Academic All American team with a GPA of 4.0. Cindy Oulette and Elisha Williams made the All American 2nd team. Karolina Lingyte, Annika Zeyen and Katie Harnock made the 1st team All American and Mackenzie Soldan and Elisha Williams
