Amen, HL! Looking forward to watching Jalen, Mac Jones and the new stable of DBs to see how they all do. Just wish Tua could join in the fun, but he needs to heal, so I'm good with him being on the sidelines.

It sounds to me like Mac Jones put on a show and Hurts has a lot of work to do. Could mac be a challenge? You guys all saw the game. RTR!

From what I saw, if the season started next week, Jalen may be the third string QB behind Matt Jones then Tua...

I agree. Jalen can still run, but he definitely struggled with his passing.

Shocked Shocked. how is it Jalen can play like so poorly and yet still win games? I know he lost yesterday but to lose his job would he not have to have some poor games like the NCG last year? I listen to part of it on the radio and it sounded as if Mac Jones played like an NFLer. I am glad our kicker sounds so good right now. RTR!

Guys, it was a spring game.  Look at last year's game.  Or even 2016.
The backup QB is often the MVP, because he plays against lesser defenses.
I don't think we learned anything about who'd best lead the team, throw to the right receivers, have the right footwork, etc.  All we know is Tua didn't play, and we HOPE he's as good as he was on the last play of the NCG.

BTW, Robert Foster was a winner one year.

It sounds to me like Mac Jones put on a show and Hurts has a lot of work to do. Could mac be a challenge?

One of the DBs going pro this year said Mac Jones was doing well in practice and would surprise a lot of folks one day.  Not having seen him practice, it was awesome to see M Jones come out and play so well for A-Day.  It was night and day compared to his A-Day performance last year (as a recent HS graduate and early enrollee).  Sure, he played against the 2nd team defense, but he made quick (mostly good) decisions, showed good pocket presence and footwork, and was pretty accurate with his throws.  I wouldn't put him ahead of Tua by a long shot, but he should be a capable backup who could start by his junior or senior season.  As a passer, he might just be better than JH, though JH makes up for it with his running ability.

The first team offense had both Harris RBs, plus Jalen, and moved the ball mostly on the ground, with a few good and several bad or throwaway passes by JH.  They couldn't put the ball in the end zone.  JH had about 50% completions and 1 interception at the end, when he finally tried a longer pass across the middle.

I think those commentators who argue that Jalen has a 26-2 record fail to credit the rest of the team -- football is a team sport.  With the defense Bama has put on the field the past two years, there are a lot of QBs who could go 26-2.  And if he started next year, JH could probably win most games.  However, it is those tough games against teams with good defenses where JH struggles, and where Bama needs a passing attack to keep the defense honest.

Bama considered playing Tua against Clemson, but the defense and special teams kept Clemson's offense in check (Clemson had a QB who can run but isn't a great passer).  If Clemson had their QB from the prior year, Deshaun Watson, Bama would have had to play Tua to even have a chance in that game.  That is what we saw in the Georgia game -- Georgia had a passing attack in the first half and Bama did not.

I think it would be foolish for Jalen to leave school if he doesn't start next year.  He'll definitely get playing time, plus he should receive his degree by December and then be able to transfer without restriction.  It seems even more foolhardy for his dad to come out and say all this, plus insist that his very athletic son is only a QB.

Not that Tua is a definite starter for next year, he still has a lot to work on too.

The rest of the team is better than anyone else.

ETA:  Now I see that CP had already said this more eloquently above.

Jalen should really consider another position such as H Back. I know his dad said that QB is all he wants to do but if is to have a chance in the NFL, it’s going to be another position to utilize his talent.
