TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Arkansas had built a little momentum against Alabama and was trying to get some more as the Razorbacks lined up on fourth-and-1 play from the Crimson Tide 43.
Then linebacker Dont'a Hightower stuffed Arkansas tailback Dennis Johnson for a 1-yard loss, leaving no doubt Alabama remained in control as the No. 3 Crimson Tide rolled to a 38-14 victory Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Hightower's tackle of Johnson late in the third quarter -- after Arkansas had pulled within 31-14 and forced a Tide punt -- pretty well summed up a frustrating offensive afternoon for the Razorbacks.
"We didn't get [Hightower] blocked," Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino said. "Of course, he's a great player. He made a great play on their part. We didn't get it done on our part."
The Razorbacks really didn't get it done in the running game. Alabama held Arkansas to 17 rushing yards on 19 attempts -- 0.9 yards per carry.
Usually when a team has such anemic rushing totals, yards lost on sacks are a major contributing factor. But while the Tide managed numerous hits on quarterback Tyler Wilson, they didn't sack him, and backup quarterback Brandon Mitchell was sacked only once for a 10-yard loss.
So, the Razorbacks gained 27 yards on 18 pure rushing attempts for a 1.5-yard average.
"You'd like to be able to run the football," Wilson said. "We've got to work on that, but we also have to throw the ball better than we did today."
