ESPN: Hogs up and running for another chance

Everybody in Arkansas was sick a year ago over the 24-20 loss to Alabama, but nobody took it harder than those who had anything to do with the Hogs’ running game.

The fact is that Arkansas didn’t have a running game, at least not at that point, which is a big reason the Hogs couldn’t hold onto a two-touchdown lead and finish the game.

When the Hogs needed to run the ball and protect their lead, they couldn’t. They managed just 13 rushing yards on seven attempts in the second half, leaving the door open for the Crimson Tide to come storming back.

“We still haven’t gotten over that, the way we had them and just couldn’t close the deal,” said Arkansas junior running back Ronnie Wingo. “We got the blame for that loss, the running backs, and maybe we should have. If you can’t run the ball, it’s going to be hard to beat those guys. I’m just glad we get another chance.”

Wingo carried the ball 20 times for 109 and 2 TDs (he had another rec'ing) against Troy. Arkansas is 52nd in rushing (170 yds. per game). Their running game is almost certainly opened up by their pass heavy offense.  We know Wingo will not have 100 yds. rushing. So if we shut down the running, I don't think they can sustain first downs.

The closer it gets to game time, the more confident I get.  These hogs are over rated just like Miss State was.

I don't think they match up well with us. The only way they can win is with big plays and us turning the ball over several times. I don't see either of those happening. I would be more concerned if the game was not in Tuscaloosa. This is the home SEC opener and I expect the players and the Tide fans to be pumped up and ready.

I think both teams are pretty good and would fare well in another conference, without having to contend with the powerhouses of Bama and LSU.  But then those two teams, Bama and LSU, just might be the best in the country.
