Sad to read this. What a great QB, first with the Stanford Indians (won Heisman), then with the Raiders and won two Super Bowls.

The report said Plunkett has endured 18 operations and lives with artificial knees, an artificial shoulder and debilitating pain in his surgically repaired back.

That's no good.  I am worried about the future of football as we know it.  IMO, it's actually a product of what was apparent better protection, which just made hits harder.

Good to see ya General but our atheletes are pushed to get bigger, stronger, and faster to win NC's and play at the Not For Long level. So all the hitting and keep hitting stuff takes it out of the human body which is not made for the Mack Attack type pounding. JMPO. RTR!

My son was an excellent athlete in football, baseball (especially BB), and basketball 12-15 years ago. He dropped football & baseball (crap). I have to say his mom & I were not sad to see him quit football.

Ever been hit in the with a soccer ball? It hurts!!! I've read concussions are prevalent in soccer, but it's not reported. I wonder if we can start a Checker & Chess League for kids and adults?

Concussions are pretty bad in soccer, especially the older kids.  Our rec league has a no header rule, so at least they are not running around trying to slam their head into the ball.
