Richardson, the junior from Pensacola, Fla., who is on watch lists for the Doak Walker, Walter Camp and Maxwell awards, the preseason Heisman candidate, the man who rushed 11 times for 167 yards and touchdown runs of 4, 58 and 71 yards last Saturday night, confessed his status this week.

“I have to say I’m one of them because I have a high GPA, trying to get the academic All-American stuff,” Richardson said. “A lot of people, when they see me in the classroom, I’m sitting up front. A lot of people say I am a nerd because I don’t talk in class. I’m just quiet, keeping to myself, trying to get my work done.”

He might be the least picked upon nerd in America. He is also one of the most colorful. He may think he’s a nerd, but his personality is too Type A for membership in the Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity from the movie Revenge of the Nerds .

I love articles like this. Stuff you don't read everywhere else.

He might be the least picked upon nerd in America.

“I’m not as near a nerd as Barrett,” he said Monday, referring to offensive lineman Barrett Jones, his teammate who this year has played every offensive line position except right guard, where he started the past two seasons.

In fact, Richardson’s face lit up like a Christmas tree when he heard that Jones can play the violin.

“I didn’t know that,” he said, smiling slyly, then practically giggling. “That’s funny. I didn’t know that.”

“Most of the time, I tell coaches to run it to Barrett’s side. Most of the time, that’s where I’m trying to run to.”

No wonder we some linemen that can do great things because they are smart. They learn their jobs and go do them and even in the classroom. Hey CNS has really brought some really smart young men to T-town. RTR!

This isn't going to help him gain yards by telling everyone the plan! Pull hair Angry Shaking computer

Great article.  I love that kind of attitude on and off the field.

Then plan is the same for every team. Were gonna run the ball, Their D is gonna stack the box on first and second down, and they are going to try and blitz to see if our young QB can handel it.

Its all about can the OL block or not.

I worked with Trent's brother when I was managing a restaurant right before and right after my son was born (who's first words were "Roll Tide, as it happens). We used to watch the Bama games together if we worked Saturdays and he would talk about how smart Trent was - and I would jokingly say something along the lines of "Smart enough to play sports?" - but anyone worth his salt knows you have to be pretty effin smart to be good football player...much less a great one!
