Family of marmots on Sheepeater Cliffs


Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel


Salmonfly; a type of stonefly that trout LOVE to eat.  They were hatching along the Gardner River, and this one posed on my steering wheel.

Thanks, guys.

We went into the park today (Monday) after breakfast.  First we stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs:


Then off to Blacktail Plateau (near Roosevelt).  Meadows of lupines:


We saw 5 different bears today; all black bears.  Here is one that was close enough for me to photograph (near a pond):


Then he sat up and watched us:

Just got back from a ride in the park with LF.  Saw lots:


First thing this morning I went to the Gardner River and caught 4 Brown Trout.


Female (ewe) Bighorn Sheep


Avocets (notice upturned bills).


Western Tanager (like the one seen earlier in a mud puddle).


Mama Cinnamon Bear too close to Chechem for comfort.


Baby bear went up a tree.

Wednesday report:

Well, I thought I'd have to wait until August to fish the Lamar River.  But today it was there.  The fish were biting.  I caught 20 cutthroat trout.
