The past two Athletic Directors at Alabama were both past players which made their choice of becoming an Alabama AD pretty easy. Mal Moore and Bill Battle were both familiar with the Alabama tradition with both arriving and playing football during the Bear Bryant era so it was somewhat easy for each to have all the amenities needed to do well during their tenure as AD at Alabama. Don't get me wrong, raising money is never easy and I think both of them did a fantastic job but I was wondering how will our new AD survive having never been on this campus and probably has never met any of the past big donors that provided all the millions of dollars that has made the Alabama athletic program what it is today.

Last night I had a chance to listen to our new AD as he described what it was like to have been chosen for this position and him share with us what some of his goals are and how he plans to achieve his goals. As I listened to him I found some similarities that he has to Dr. Witt, past president of the university. He has done his research of the needs for the athletic program and has a vision of what is needed to make the program even better than what it is today. These ideas included possible rules changes, facility updates, academics, and a plan to involve past players more.

I won't go into any details as to what these plans are as we were asked not to discuss his plans but I can promise you that he has some lofty goals. I might add that it wasn't just football, basketball, or baseball, it was in all of the sports. I admired his broad vision for his plans for all of the sports and his courage to speak up and say that Bama can't sit on the past championships we have enjoyed but must continue to accept changes and continue to enhance growth in all of the sports in order to achieve the primary goal of each sport, National Championships.

He is responsible for all the restructuring of the Mississippi State campus and if you haven't seen it, you would hardly recognize it compared to what the campus used to look like. This is why I think things will begin to happen with our athletic department immediately, he's got a lot of energy and big friend on his side to help[ make all this possible, Nick Saban.

That is refreshing, Jamos.  Thanks for the update on him.

I've been reading an ugly story about a scandal at his former school, Arizona.  Here is the review of it:

From what I have read and heard about this case, it seems the legal department of Arizona has been making all the calls on how this case has been handled. There has been no media on this at all at Alabama as far as Byrne's involvement. I am assuming though that Byrne was screened for any wrong doing on his part before he was hired for the job by Alabama. But, we all know about the word ass u me.

Yes, several of the articles on this scandal suggest that Alabama was aware of it and discussed it with Byrne before he was hired.
