I learned the specifics this morning.  Several local businesses involved, as well as several local citizens.
Looks like I retired just in time!
Now this sounds like a terrible thing that locals did some wrong am I hearing this right Chechem? RTR!

Ole Miss didn't list names of people or businesses in their public news release.  But I talked with the folks who knew.  It will be interesting to see how Ole Miss punishes them, if at all.

The Ole Miss administration is pointing fingers at their predecessors, which indeed is generally true.  But the lack of control and the failure of Head Coach to maintain control cannot be dismissed.

Word is Freeze told his coaches (a while back) to 'lawyer up'.  And, to his credit, he's not blaming anyone for the blame placed on him and his position.  He's big-time upset.

"Lawyering up" doesn't work in Administrative matters, only criminal situations. They can be charged by the NCAA with failure to cooperate in an investigation.

This is what happens when you switch your mascot from Col. Reb to a black bear. Bad things, man, bad things.

Good info & point of view. Read link.

Quote
One side, the side that blindly defends Ole Miss regardless of truth or logic, called the NCAA case only a witch hunt, denied an allegation that prospects received merchandise from Rebel Rags and denied an allegation that an Ole Miss booster gave Leo Lewis at least $13,000 during his recruitment in 2014.

Quote
Both sides are wrong. To truly understand what has happened at Ole Miss since February 2013 requires nuance and context. Those who blindly defend Ole Miss, as well as those who vigorously attack it, don’t have and don’t want either nuance or context.

Take Rebel Rags, for example. The NCAA alleges that a staff member directed prospects and their families to the store for a discount and/or free items. That’s an improper benefit. It’s minor stuff, sure. We’re talking T-shirts, sweatshirts and caps here, not new sports cars, but for the love of all things holy, most programs are smart enough to have some layers of separation.

I definitely don't call this a witch hunt of Ole Miss. Larry Tunsil admitted asking for money at the NFL Draft on live TV. Plus, they supposedly have a tape of coach discussing payments and statements from 2 previous recruits.

Uh oh, I hadn't heard that but it's to be expected. I will look for a site which we can post here.

This is a very good article by SB Nation regarding the Ole Miss situation. They discuss:

1. Allegations and findings regarding Laremy Tunsil.
2. Ole Miss standing by Hugh Freeze.
3. The worst possible scenario for Ole Miss - If the proposed one year bowl ban is rejected and a two year bowl ban is enforced Ole Miss players will be able to transfer without sitting out a year. Rival schools are already evaluating the Ole Miss roster for transfer possibilities.
4. Will Ole Miss retaliate and turn in other SEC schools.

Quote
Hugh Freeze’s Ole Miss faces NCAA doomsday. SEC rivals prep for either transfers or trouble.

The Rebels have already bowl banned themselves in response to an expanded list of allegations. How big could this get?

I'm afraid that Ole Mis fans & some alumni will demand that the university fight to the bloody end and take everyone they can down with them. I think this way because they were out of the football limelight for 45-50 years and suddenly reemerged into its bright glow. They now think this an effort by their "enemies" like Misses State, maybe Auburn & other teams, the SEC, and the NCAA to put them down for their success. Teams are jealous (in their mind) of this sudden success and respect they had earned by "out-recruiting" everyone else since we all know how much these players loved Ole Miss and really wanted to go there for school. Basically, they are feeling "picked on" and conspired against by the world.

Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail, especially by the university President and the Governor who will probably be behind the scenes talking. Trying to cause chaos and huge problems for other schools in and out of the SEC will buy nothing for Ole Miss but eternal animus from across the region, the SEC Office, the NCAA, and most everyone else.

As did we all. Chech was the only person in the state of Mississippi that knew how to pronounce and spell his name.

Not just Nkemdiche, the #1 prospect in the country from Georgia, but 5* Tunsil out of Florida, 5* Laquon Treadwell out of Illinois, and others. You telling me a kid from Illinois who could go ANYWHERE picked Ole Miss. Give me a break.

What? There was nothing at all suspicious about an unproven head coach arriving at a perennial SEC doormat and suddenly winning recruiting battles against Bama, OSU, and other top-tier programs.
