Wow, SUPERCOACH will be crushed to see this. I hope he doesn't harm himself while in a deep depression.

Quote
Alas, with ratings taking a tumble this season and the complaints about Thursday Night Football getting louder, the NFL could finally be coming to the realization that less is more.

According to Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk, the NFL is seriously considering reducing the TNF schedule or eliminating the games entirely when the rights agreement ends after the 2017 season.

Maybe the problem is availability.
It's on the NFL Network.  How many folks get that station??

It's also broadcast opposite college football, which is MUCH more entertaining.

Especially if it's a 49ers game.

Well after the stint they let the players pull against vets the NFL took a tumble forever I am sure. They may be filthy rich, but they are filthy in morals toward their country I am afraid. RTR!

The linked article hits most of the pertinent points.  To me the main two are [1] overexposure of games, and [2] dilution of the attractiveness of games shown on Sunday, either afternoon or night.

With no Thurs game there would be more buildup to the weekend.  And with another choice on Sundays, the league could put a more interesting game on in more of the country. This could help get ratings up.

I do wonder if the stunt that idiot that plays qb for the 49ers hasn't had a negative impact on viewership...

Sorry, but I'm not buying those excuses.  How many NFL games are played each weekend vs. the number of college football games that are played?  Over exposure?  My foot...

There's no single factor at play here.

-I've quit watching the NFL largely because of the their left wing politicization of the game.  I'm not the only one.
-Since the league took all the fun out of the game in the name of sportsmanship, it's not much fun anymore. I'm all for sportsmanship, but a decade ago guys like Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson were fun to "hate". You would watch games just to see what crazy stunts they would pull.
-Making the schedule in the summer means sometimes matchups for a Thursday, Sunday, or Monday night game are going to end up stinking.
-Most NFL fans are patriotic, everyday Americans. The business with the SF QB doesn't sit well with them.
-I can't really put my finger on what it is, but it feels like the game itself has changed in the last ten years. Maybe it's just me getting older and realizing there are much more important things in life, but it just doesn't hold my interest the way it used to.

I think you hit it on nail head right here. The unpatriotic players and the game has lost it's luster because of all the money paid players and your team never wins. Look at some of the teams like Bills, Rams, and etc. who in the world wants to pay money to watch a bunch of invalids play football. Bring the Ray Nitscke's and RB's like Payton and Emmett Smith, and with people like Dickerson. Lynn Swann and the Cowboys of old. Those days of games were fun to watch. RTR!

They should pull the plug on Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, and Monday night too while they are at it.
