"We have to get him to do a better job of executing," Saban said.
Through the first three quarters, Hurts completed only 9 of 17 pass attempts for 106 yards and an interception blemished his stat line. So did a fumble he committed in the third quarter on a sack. Yet the Alabama coach continued to channel the offense through his freshman quarterback.
The strategy was a testament to Saban's belief in a player who is only 18 years old.
"It's all about resiliency," Saban said. "Guy does not get affected. There are things that we need to do better at the quarterback position. We made some errors early that were costly. We made some plays in the end that his athleticism allowed him to make. I think as we roll with him we are going to have to live with both. I like the second part better than his first."
