What Alabama did to Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen on Saturday night really can’t be overstated. Allen dropped back to pass 61 times, and was under pressure on 42 of those plays. That’s 68.9 percent of his dropbacks. To put that into context, Allen was pressured on 37.8 percent of his dropbacks through the first five weeks of the season — one of the highest rates in the nation. Combined, the Alabama defense finished the game with 46 total pressures, including seven sacks and nine quarterback hits. Seven different players registered at least four pressures, including backup edge defender Terrell Hall, who managed to register a sack and four hurries, despite rushing the passer just eight times. One of the most dominant team performances you’ll ever see from a pass-rushing standpoint, they made life miserable for the Arkansas quarterback.

I went back quickly thru the game to see how many time the QB got hit.  A few were taps, where he wasn't really taken down and a couple were on scrambled.

1st quarter:  hit 4 times, one was a tap
2nd quarter: hit 8 times, one was a tap and one was on a scramble
3rd quarter:  hit 10 times, one was a tap and one was on a scramble
4th quarter:  hit 10 times, two were taps, and one was on a scramble

So basically the QB was hit about 32 times in the game.

I was noticing during the game that he was getting hit an awful lot.  He seemed to be getting really frustrated by it too.  I think his OLine was being overly helpful to help him get back to his feet too since they were letting our D get to him so much...

Because the got the ball off right before he was hit.  The force to scramble also makes the defenders cover for a long time.  He completed some even when hit.

Totally agree.  Thanks for the stats to back it up.  I noticed later in the game he had more time in the pocket and looked like Peyton Manning completing passes.  So the defensive pressure definitely was a game changer.

True.  Lot of stats compiled by Allen during the 4th quarter when our pass rush was minimal.  Big dropoff in quality rushers by then.  Allen probably added 100 yards passing after we stopped throwing and sat on the clock.

Not to diminish his accomplishment.  He can throw and he can take a hit.  Quality QB.
