I had taken a few days off that week to finish building a wooden fence in my backyard. I called my office to speak with Ralph, a fellow worker and a close friend. I just happened to call him at work. He told me to turn on TV. He then said "we was under attack". When I turned on the TV, both towers were burning. I called my wife and then my elderly father who had spent 30 years in the NAVY. He keep repeating "those sorry SOBs that did this" "those sorry SOBs that did this"... I then watched on TV as the two towers crash down. I received a call from my minister. We have a phone tree message system. He was saying there was a special service planned for Tuesday night at our church.

I stood in front of a big-screen TV at work and watched.  I didn't see the first plane hit, and the story was still confused about intent or accident.  It soon became apparent.

The most salient moment for me occurred after the Pentagon was hit.  A woman next to me (someone whose intellect I'd questioned before) asked me, "I guess I should know; what is the Pentagon?"  With that I left and watched it from home.

I worked for BellSouth in Birmingham and my depatment was on the 19th floor of the downtown building. My desk faced I59/20 and I could see the air traffic going to and from the Birmingham airport. To say the least, I was very nervous and very glad to see the work day end and get out of the building on that day.

I was in the bottom of a wet well supervising a start up on a new sanitary sewer lift station when the technician I had been waiting for drove up and told me he had just heard about it on the radio on the way to the jobsite.  A few minutes later we heard the second tower had been hit.  I just remember hoping we would retaliate swiftly and decisively.

Elmore County HS as assistant principal. We had a college fair that morning in our auditorium when the news started filtering in. By 9:30 AM we had probably 20 people in my office watching the TV, watching everything unfold. Very surreal - seems like yesterday.

Jasper, Alabama. I was working for the newspaper there and hadn't gone in yet. I was in the middle of taking a shower and had the radio on when they started talking about what was happening. I thought they were kidding at first, but the more they talked, the more worried I got. I quickly got dressed and turned on the TV. There was the smoking from the first tower, and I just fell to my knees in disbelief. We were called in early to start doing stories about local reaction and contingency plans in case of an emergency in Walker County. That was the weirdest, scariest day that I can ever remember.

I was in San Francisco, CA. I flew in Monday night for a meeting Tuesday 9-11 morning. I got up and did not turn the TV on. I went to the lobby to check out and get a cup of coffee. The first building had been hit at that time. We had our meeting which was noproductive. I waited around until Noon Thursday for a flight home. I finally decided to drive. I already had a rental car which was good because none were available. I home home. It took 2 1/2 days. There was no music or sports or normal talk shows on the radio. Only 9-11 news and updates.

Huntsville, AL at work. Watched on a small 10" or 13" TV with rabbit ears. I couldn't tear myself away from the coverage. It's surprising I didn't get fired. My company and I went on to do a huge amount of work for FAA and the Transportation Security Administration on contracts directly related to the War on Terror.

I was awakened by my sisters boyfriend on the phone telling me to get her up.  I told him to eff off.  He said the world trade center and the pentagon were on fire.  I told him he was stupid and hung up on him.  Laid there for a couple of minutes and decided to turn on the TV just to see.

Had a spanish test that day, the stupid teacher did not cancel the test, about 1/3 of students showed up.  I dont remember my score but it wasnt good.

I was living in Singapore so it was nighttime when it all happened. (+12 hours.)  I was watching CNBC Asia which carried the US feed live.  Mark Haynes (who recently died, rest his soul) was talking about a small plane having hit the WTC, but it quickly bacame clear that was wrong.  I called an American friend who's wife was visiting family in Tel Aviv.  He had just talked to her and she had immediately said "Bin Laden."

I was at work on campus in Tuscaloosa when someone said that a plane had hit the WTC, and we gathered around the TV.  I saw the second plane hit via live TV coverage, and knew immediately that this was no accident.  It was strange because the TV announcers didn't seem to notice the second strike at first.  I took the rest of the day off.

I was on my way to work when the 1st plane hit. I got to work at the tv station in Chattanooga went to the morning meeting and watched live the  2nd plane hit. From there it was all instinct. Went to a school to talk to kids about what was happening, a trip to the blood bank to shoot another story. While I was there, I gave a pint. Crazy day to say the least. Left work late and watched the coverage till I crashed. Did the same thing the next few days.

I was at work on duty when my wife called and said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I asked her if it was an accdent and no one knew. I foud a TV and saw te 2nd plane hit, then I knew, Arab terrorists. Side story: I worked with a black lady who was very liberal, Gore-loving & Democrat. On the third day when we knew it was Bin Laden in Afghanistan, my liberal, non-violent co-worker said Bush needed to turn Afghanistan into a parking lot, in other words, flatten it.
