Defensive end Darius Philon has committed to Alabama. The commitment of the 6'2 and 282 pound defensive end out of Vigor High School continues a strong recruiting run in recent weeks for the Tide, and one that will hopefully continue in the near future with the commitment of Amari Cooper.

By committing to Alabama, Philon ends what had turned into a whirlwind recruiting process. His recruitment began to take off after an impressive junior season saw him rack up 89 tackles along the defensive line, and at that point he started to see some legitimate interest from BCS conference programs. Then, in late May, he decided to commit to Auburn, and remained an Auburn commitment for several weeks.

Great news.  Darius Philon is among the elite DE this year.  He just needs to keep his grades up and work hard now.  Congrats to him and the coaches.

His grades seems to be no concern.

I saw a 3.0 GPA and 20ACT, so the young man sounds like he'll be fine academically if he continues on his current track.

I'm glad to see he's already qualified.  But he needs to keep working on grades to stay eligible and complete his core courses.

Vigor traditionally was NOT a strong academic school.  His good grades and scores are a testament to his work and that of his teachers and counselors.  Good for him.
